About the Position

We are seeking a positive, practical, and service-minded Park Store and Operations Lead to support park store operations and partnership coordination activities at Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

This hands-on role will serve as the primary local representative for park store operations, coordinating year-round part-time and seasonal staff, assisting with merchandise receiving and stocking, working regular store shifts, and maintaining attractive, visitor-ready store environments. The Park Store and Operations Lead will communicate regularly with National Park Service staff and relay key operational and promotional information to the Director of Retail and Central Office.

This position is a good fit for someone who is organized, creative, dependable, enjoys problem-solving, and values providing exceptional experiences for park visitors.

Key Responsibilities

The Park Store and Operations Lead will:

  • Welcome visitors in a friendly, helpful, and professional manner in the park store.

  • Work regular shifts in the park stores, assisting visitors, processing sales, receiving merchandise, and supporting daily operations.

  • Coordinate the daily work of year-round part-time and seasonal staff.

  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, mentoring, and supporting part-time and seasonal staff.

  • Maintain professional, cooperative, and helpful relationships with National Park Service staff and other park partners.

  • Relay operational needs, staffing updates, visitor trends, and promotional opportunities to the Director of Retail and Central Office.

  • Coordinate merchandise receiving, pricing, labeling, stocking, transfers, and replenishment.

  • Monitor stock levels and use creativity and good judgment to keep stores well stocked and attractively arranged.

  • Maintain awareness of the local Medora area, visitor patterns, seasonal activity, and community resources that may affect operations.

  • Help identify park activities, visitor center happenings, seasonal highlights, and product features for Central Office use in promotion or social media.

  • Travel between assigned park store locations as needed to support operations and staff.

  • Assist with inventories, cycle counts, special events, product displays, seasonal transitions, and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Positive, dependable, and comfortable interacting with the public.

  • Service-oriented, enthusiastic, and committed to delivering excellent visitor experiences.

  • Interested in national parks, public lands, history, conservation, or visitor services.

  • Able to lead by example, support staff, and coordinate daily operations.

  • Organized, flexible, and able to handle a variety of practical tasks.

  • Skilled at communicating clearly with store staff, National Park Service staff, and Central Office.

  • Comfortable using point-of-sale systems, email, inventory tools, and common retail equipment.

  • Responsible when handling sales transactions, merchandise, and basic math.

  • Able to organize merchandise, receive shipments, maintain displays, and track store needs.

  • Familiar with Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Medora, and the surrounding area, or willing to learn.

  • Able to travel between park locations as needed.

Experience: Two or more years of relevant experience in retail, visitor services, hospitality, museum store operations, park operations, nonprofit operations, or inventory coordination preferred. Prior experience coordinating staff, supporting daily operations, or serving as a local point of contact is highly desirable.

Schedule

This is a full-time role supporting year-round operations. Weekend and holiday availability may be required. Exact start date, weekly hours, and schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Why This Work Matters

The park store helps visitors continue learning about Theodore Roosevelt National Park long after their visit. Revenue from park store purchases supports education, interpretation, visitor services, and other park-related needs.

In this role, you will help visitors have a great experience, support store staff, coordinate operations, and ensure that park store services remain reliable, welcoming, and well-managed.
