About Husky Homestead Tours

We offer three tours daily, seven days a week for approximately 130 days from mid-May through mid/late-September. We need your help in making our guests' trip to Husky Homestead one that they will say was "the highlight of our visit to Alaska"! We welcome guests from all over the world on a daily basis, and it's our job to share with them our love of dogs, and our passion for our lifestyle and the sport of dog mushing. Many of our guests are new to our State Sport of mushing, but love dogs! We harness that love, add a bit of humor and share with them what it is we do here all year long.

Husky Homestead is home to 4x Iditarod Champion Jeff King, and is his home base for training these world class athletes. As a member of the Husky Homestead team, you will play a valuable part in our day-to-day operations and the experience of our guests. Join our team and work with a great group of people, and see Alaska from a different perspective.

Season Dates: Our tour season runs from mid-May to mid-September.  Preference will be given to applicants that are available for our entire season.

Ideal Candidate

We are pleased that you want to spend your summer with us to help us attain our goal of providing quality customer service to all of our guests.

  • Outgoing & Friendly – You will be around guests all day, every day.
  • Professional – A neat appearance and clean lifestyle.
  • Positive Attitude – Always polite and courteous with guests and staff members.
  • Team Player – Our small group of employees are more like a family. For four months, we work, eat, sleep, and play together in very close quarters. You must be able to get along with your co-workers at all times.
  • Attendance & Work Ethic – Our summer season is short and very busy. All employees must report to work on time, all the time. There will be days that you are asked to work more than your scheduled shift.
  • Honest and Trustworthy – Our staff is the face of Husky Homestead. We need employees that we can trust with our guests, our dogs, our vehicles and equipment, and our livelihood.

Please keep in mind that you will be living and working at our Husky Homestead location. It can be challenging to separate the work environment from the living environment, and delineate the importance of establishing the difference between a working relationship and personal relationships. For the right adventurous person, summers at Husky Homestead could be just the beginning!

Room and Board

Husky Homestead staff can live at our housing site in the McKinley Village area. We have private single cabins, as well as several double occupancy cabins. All cabins have heat, electricity and wireless internet. Our cabins are in close proximity to our commons area that has two bathrooms and free laundry facilities. A shared kitchen offers a stove/oven, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and storage for food, along with several refrigerators and a chest freezer - there is no dishwasher. The commons area also has several couches, a TV with HDMI connection, and DVD player. Free wireless internet is available throughout the property.

Housing costs vary depending on whether it requires your use of our shared commons area, or whether it has a private kitchen/bath.  Rent is auto-deducted from your paycheck. We do not provide meal plans for employees, but there is now a grocery store in Healy that we can arrange transportation to.  There are several restaurants in the area, and two small locally owned places that offer staples to help between runs to Healy or Fairbanks.

Employee Perks

Employees who complete the entire season and fulfill their contract are eligiblefor an end-of-season bonus. Also, you will receive priority when we hire for following summers, as well as first pick at housing.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Husky Homestead does not pay for transportation to the Denali Park area. If flying to Alaska, we suggest arriving in Fairbanks where we will meet you for pick-up and take you on errands to ensure that you will have the food and supplies to get you started for a summer in the remote Denali area. While a vehicle is not necessary to live/work here, we do not provide personal transportation. Once you are here it would be up to you to plan for any trips out of the Denali area, and as to how you may get to and from those areas.

For Fun

As an employee of Husky Homestead, you may receive discounted or complimentary tours with many of the other local Denali activities: atv adventures in the wilderness , whitewater rafting on the Nenana River, helicopter or fixed-wing flight seeing to Denali or to a glacier for a landing, ziplining, fly fishing excursions, Jeep tours on the beautiful Denali Highway, bus or hiking tours into Denali National Park, mountain biking, kayaking, etc. There are also other things to keep you busy: hiking, camping, photography, berry picking, etc. If you enjoy being outdoors, we’ve got a lot of space for you to play!
