About High Tide Inn LLC

The High Tide Inn was purchased by the current owner four years ago, and he has been dedicated to restoring the property further each season.

The property features a unique architectural history that reflects changing vacation styles and travel trends over the last century. The original main building, built at the turn of the 20th century, houses five guest rooms, the check-in lobby, and a wrap-around veranda where breakfast is served. The cottages were later added in the late 1940s and early 1950s, followed by the L-shaped motel-style building in the 1960s. Finally, the two-story building near the ocean was completed in the 1980s.

This evolution makes the property particularly unique, as each addition was influenced by what was fashionable at the time. The best feature, of course, is the rolling hill that ends at the incredible view of Penobscot Bay and our rocky Maine beach.

Our central location in the Midcoast Maine area offers a wonderful opportunity to explore many of the state's beautiful parks and recreation areas, within a 2 hour drive at most. Additionally, right here on Penobscot Bay, we have several islands accessible by ferry that are perfect for biking and hiking.

The Employee Experience

At the High Tide Inn, we pride ourselves on a collaborative and positive work environment. Our day typically begins with a team breakfast of coffee, popovers, and fruit, followed by a brief strategy meeting to plan our housekeeping tasks.

We believe that no one is too good for any job; as Innkeepers, Mark and Holly work right alongside the team and would never ask you to perform a task they wouldn’t do themselves. A typical shift runs from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, though longer days may run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. For those interested, additional hours are often available for gardening or special events and weddings.

We are a small, tight-knit staff that values having fun and letting off steam. Whether it’s a group swim trip to Lake Megunticook or a team BBQ, we work closely together and truly feel like a family.

Ideal Candidate

We are currently looking for a detail-oriented, hard-working individual with a great attitude to join our housekeeping team.

We believe that any job worth doing is worth doing well. Doing a thorough job today ensures that the next shift—whether it is you or a colleague—can work more efficiently. While we are not a five-star accommodation, we strive to provide five-star quality service.

Our process is streamlined: we do not offer daily turndown or stay-over bed-making services. Instead, we focus on deep cleaning rooms after guest checkouts. For long-term stays, we provide a "refresh" service and offer fresh towels and trash removal upon request.

We have found that working in teams makes the day faster and more enjoyable, though we are happy to accommodate those who prefer to work independently.

Room and Board

We are pleased to offer employee housing in the "Deck House," a two-bedroom, one-bathroom residence that we previously used as a rental property.

We currently have a room available with two full-size beds, which is well-suited for an individual, a couple, or two friends traveling & working together for the season. Rent is typically $85 per week, though this is negotiable based on the number of occupants per room.

As an employee, you are welcome to enjoy breakfast daily and full use of the beach during your time off. Additionally, we offer a 30% friends and family discount for stays at the Inn, subject to availability and holiday schedules.

Getting Here and Getting Around

When it comes to  traveling into the state, the two main airports in Maine are Portland and Bangor. Alternatively, you can fly into Boston.

If you fly into a Maine airport, one of us will most likely be able to pick you up. If you fly into Boston, we ask that you take the Concord Trailways bus to Rockland or Camden. The bus is very clean and safe. We can also provide a pickup from the bus station in either Camden or Rockland.

While having a car is recommended, as we are located two miles outside of town, it is not strictly necessary. Mark, Margo, or Holly often drop off and pick up employees in downtown Camden. Please note that while bikes are useful for trips to the islands, biking along Route 1 can be dangerous.

For Fun

Maine is an amazing place to spend the summer season, especially if you love the outdoors. Being in the Midcoast area, we have wonderful access to the ocean, islands, and beautiful natural lakes and rivers. Popular activities include canoeing, kayaking, hiking, boating, and island hopping—which is particularly fun if you have a bike. There is also great rock climbing nearby.

Downtown Camden, located just two miles away, is a charming coastal town with a vibrant cultural scene, including music festivals and Shakespeare in the park. Nearby, Rockport features the Rockport Opera House, and Rockland hosts various festivals and the Farnsworth Art Museum. All along the coastline, you will find a variety of beautiful sandy and rocky beaches to enjoy.

If you enjoy stargazing, the meteor showers in August are especially vibrant here in Maine. Our location makes it easy to find excellent viewing spots with very little light pollution.

In October, you might also see the phosphorescence in the ocean, which occasionally appears as early as August. Additionally, don't miss the fireflies during June and July.

While previous experience is a plus, it is not necessary as we are happy to train the right candidate. We are looking for team players who also possess the self-discipline to work independently when needed. Responsibilities primarily involve cleaning guest rooms after departure; we do not offer turndown service, and all linens are processed off-site. Shifts typically run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, sometimes 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We look forward to hearing from you.
