Want a career where your office comes with mountain views?

Grand Denali Lodge is looking for an experienced, hands-on Chief Engineer to join our team in Denali, Alaska. This is a year-round position for someone who enjoys solving problems, working independently, leading a team, and keeping a large seasonal resort operating at its best.

We’re looking for a true jack-of-all-trades—someone who may not be a master of every trade, but knows enough about a lot of them to figure out what needs to be done, get their hands dirty, and know when it’s time to bring in a specialist.

Compensation

  • $85,000–$95,000 annually, depending on experience

  • Plus annual bonus opportunity

What You’ll Do

As Chief Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the overall maintenance and physical condition of Grand Denali Lodge and its supporting facilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance and engineering operations

  • Perform and supervise general plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, painting, appliance and equipment repairs

  • Troubleshoot mechanical and building-system problems

  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs

  • Prepare the property for seasonal opening and winterization

  • Maintain guest rooms, public areas, employee housing and back-of-house facilities

  • Coordinate outside contractors and specialty vendors when needed

  • Maintain inventories of tools, equipment and maintenance supplies

  • Assist with budgeting, purchasing and capital improvement projects

  • Ensure maintenance work is completed safely and according to applicable codes and standards

  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations when required

  • Train, supervise and develop seasonal maintenance team members

  • Work closely with property leadership to protect the lodge and improve the guest and employee experience

Who We’re Looking For

You’re the person people call when something stops working.

You don’t necessarily need to be a licensed electrician, master plumber, HVAC technician and carpenter all rolled into one—but you should be comfortable working across all of those areas.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Strong general maintenance and building-systems experience

  • Experience in hotel, resort, commercial property or facilities maintenance preferred

  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and mechanical systems

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Leadership or supervisory experience

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work independently and make good decisions

  • A hands-on mentality—you’re willing to pick up the tools and get the job done

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to work in a remote Alaska environment

Experience working with seasonal properties, winterization, generators, boilers, commercial kitchens or remote facilities is a plus.

Why Denali?

This isn’t your typical hotel engineering job.

You’ll live and work just outside Denali National Park, surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in Alaska.

And because we believe year-round careers should still leave room to enjoy life, this position includes approximately two months off each year.

Benefits

  • FREE employee housing

  • Year-round employment

  • Approximately two months off annually

  • $85,000–$95,000 annual salary, depending on experience

  • Annual bonus program

  • Healthcare benefits

  • HSA program

  • FSA program

  • 401(k) program

  • Hotel and travel benefits

  • Employee discounts

  • Opportunity to live and work in one of Alaska’s most iconic destinations

  • A position where no two days are exactly the same

If you’re a problem solver, enjoy working with your hands, and like the idea of trading traffic jams for mountains, wildlife and Alaska adventure, we’d like to hear from you.

Come live, work and play in Denali.
