Glacier National Park Conservancy is the official non-profit fundraising partner for Glacier National Park. We operate four retail stores, and we hire about 25 seasonal employees for our summer retail operation. 

Our season runs May - October, with the busiest time being late June - mid-September.  We have some flexibility with the start & end dates of employment, depending on the position.  Please note that we require most employees to stay until at least Labor Day. 

Below is a list of positions available for Summer 2022.

  • Sales Associate

    Retail
    West Glacier & Apgar, St Mary Visitor Center, and Logan Pass Visitor Center
    $15.00 / hour

    Sales Associates operate our busy retail stores during the summer season (May – October). One of the ways the Conservancy raises money for Glacier Park is by selling souvenir items in the Glacier National Park Visitor Centers. We offer a selection of t-shirts, books, postcards, magnets, and much more. Sales Associates may be based out of West Glacier (working at our West Glacier, Apgar, and Logan Pass stores) or St Mary (working at our St Mary and Logan Pass stores).

    The primary roles for Sales Associates are operating the register, re-stocking product, assisting customers, folding t-shirts, monitoring store capacity, and enforcing Covid-19 safety measures. They also receive orders from our warehouse, organize back stock, count inventory, and keep stores clean and organized.  Another important role of Sales Associates is to act as ambassadors for the Glacier Conservancy by asking for donations and helping visitors connect with our mission and projects.

    It’s truly a team effort to keep the checkout lines moving efficiently and to keep the shelves well-stocked with product. Our staff operates our retail stores with great care and provides excellent customer service to visitors. Ultimately, the money raised at our retail registers supports our mission to preserve and protect Glacier Park for future generations.  

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Welcome Glacier Park visitors and assist with merchandise selection
    • Accurately process transactions and run credit cards using our POS system
    • Keep the stores clean and accessible for park visitors
    • Receive orders from the warehouse to the stores
    • Troubleshoot IT issues
    • Cooperate with Glacier Park staff to ensure that protocols are followed in operating the Visitor Center stores
    • Improve efficiencies at the register to maximize the number of transactions processed
    • Stock and display merchandise according to GNPC guidelines
    • Communicate and enforce Covid-19 safety measures to ensure the health of staff and visitors
    • Inform park visitors about our mission and Friends of Glacier donation program
    • Ask for donations to Glacier Park with each transaction
    • Other duties as assigned (e.g. inventory work, yard clean up, store set-up, store closing)
    • Follow the Employee Handbook for maintaining a safe, professional, and positive work environment


    Education and Experience:

    • High School Diploma required, and some College preferred
    • One year of related retail or customer service experience preferred
    • Must have valid Driver’s License


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of and interest in Glacier National Park preferred
    • Excellent customer service and communication skills
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision
    • Ability to work as part of a team to accomplish the tasks at hand
    • Strong computer skills
    • Understanding of appropriate behavior in a professional work environment
    • Ability to stock and merchandise product in an attractive and organized way
    • Knowledge of retail inventories and ability to take accurate counts


    Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

    • Strength to handle boxes weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance and hand carts
    • Stamina to stand for long periods of time
    • High energy to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Willingness to work some holidays and weekends
    • Flexibility to accommodate changes to the schedule, due to unpredictable weather or wildfires
  • St Mary Store Manager

    Retail
    St Mary Visitor Center
    $16.00 / hour

    Our retail store at the St Mary Visitor Center is far enough away from our main office in West Glacier that we hire a store manager for that location. The St Mary staff is typically 4-5 people. This position performs all the same duties as a Sales Associate and regularly works on the store floor.

    In addition to regular store operations, the Manager takes on some additional responsibilities: setting a positive tone for the St Mary staff, reviewing orders for the store, tracking inventory, writing the store schedule, implementing Covid-19 safety measures, coordinating with National Park Service (NPS) staff in St Mary, and communicating with staff in West Glacier about any issues that arise. The Store Manager is also the primary point of contact for customer service and IT issues. Another important role of all Glacier National Park Conservancy (GNPC) staff is to act as an ambassador for the organization by asking for donations and helping visitors connect with our mission and projects.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Welcome Glacier Park visitors and assist with merchandise selection
    • Support the St Mary staff by setting a positive tone for the team and ensuring you have what is needed to work safely and efficiently
    • Ensure sales associates are trained on Point of Sales (POS system) and policies and procedures. Enforce rules, as needed
    • Inform West Glacier staff about any issues related to product, customers, or employees
    • Communicate with the Warehouse Manager to ensure the St Mary store is well-stocked
    • Create shift schedules for St Mary employees to ensure the store is appropriately staffed
    • Accurately process transactions and run credit cards using our POS system
    • Keep the stores clean and accessible for park visitors
    • Stock and display merchandise according to GNPC guidelines
    • Inform Glacier Park visitors about the mission of GNPC
    • Attend GNPC and NPS trainings, orientations and special programs as scheduling allows
    • Coordinate ticket sales for Star Parties and Native America Speaks programs
    • Follow the Employee Handbook for maintaining a safe, professional and positive environment
    • Other duties as assigned

    Education and Experience:

    • High School Diploma required
    • College degree preferred
    • One year of related retail/customer service experience
    • One year in a manager/supervisor position
    • Must have valid Driver’s License

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of and interest in Glacier National Park preferred
    • Excellent customer service and communication skills
    • Strong leadership skills
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision
    • Ability to foster a strong, positive team dynamic for the St Mary staff

  • Warehouse Specialist

    West Glacier & Apgar
    $15.00 / hour

    Job Summary:

    Warehouse Specialists assist the Warehouse Manager in receiving & distributing product to several busy retail store locations.  One of the ways the Glacier National Park Conservancy (GNPC) raises money for Glacier Park is by selling souvenir items in the National Park Service (NPS) Visitor Centers.

    Warehouse Specialists are primarily focused on fulfilling and delivering orders to the stores.  Warehouse work is both physical and detail oriented. It’s helpful to be good with data and numbers to help ensure accurate inventory counts. Warehouse Specialist positions are based out of West Glacier, MT. The warehouse season runs from April – October.

    It’s a big job to keep the stores stocked and the warehouse organized.  We sell through a lot of product in a short season, and our stores are small with limited storage space. It takes a dedicated effort to get the right product to the right locations in a timely manner. We work in a fast-paced environment that does not stop during the height of the season!

Ultimately, the money raised in our retail stores supports our mission to preserve and protect Glacier Park for future generations.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Receive incoming deliveries and check in product in a timely manner
    • Create and pick orders for the stores, and communicate with stores about what is needed
    • Deliver product to stores and assist with putting product away in stockrooms
    • Notify Warehouse Manager when inventory discrepancies are discovered, or when stock is low
    • Price product and check that product information is accurate in Point of Sales (POS) system
    • Spot check inventory counts to ensure POS system is accurate
    • Keep warehouse clean and organized
    • Assist with end of season inventory counts
    • General facilities work including cleaning, yard work, and light maintenance
    • Follow Covid-19 protocols based on current GNPC and NPS guidelines
    • Follow the Employee Handbook for maintaining a safe, professional, and positive environment
    • Other duties as assigned

    Education and Experience:

    • High School diploma required; some college preferred
    • One year warehouse/fulfillment experience preferred
    • Previous experience with POS systems preferred
    • Must have valid Driver’s License

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also to work collaboratively with other warehouse and store staff
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Attention to detail
    • Willingness to admit mistakes and make efforts to correct them
    • Ability to work well as part of a team
    • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
    • Flexibility and ability to prioritize tasks

    Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

    • Ability to stand, be active, and/or drive for a minimum eight-hour shift
    • Frequently lift and handle cartons weighing up to 50 pounds, with the of use handcarts
    • Willingness to drive a 15-passenger van on mountain roads in inclement weather
    • Ability to bend down or kneel on the ground to stock or pull product from shelves 
    • Positive attitude to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Willingness to work holidays and weekends
    • Flexibility to accommodate changes to the schedule, due to unpredictable weather or wildfires
