The Employee Experience
Summer Camp Staff live onsite at our camp properties in the mountains of Julian, with access to hiking trails, onsite lakes, and endless opportunities to impact campers through outdoor experiences. Our summer teams work closely together and often form lifelong connections with one another. Choose from one of our two unique camp properties for a summer employment experience that best suits you and shapes the memories you'll make with coworkers, all while supporting girls in building courage, confidence, and character at camp. Working with Girl Scouts San Diego is an experience that will stick with you forever, whether it's your first summer on the team or you return year after year!
Ideal Candidate
Our staff are engaged, energetic and enthusiastic team players who must also possess these minimum qualifications:
Must meet the age requirement for the intended role by the start date for that position (18+ for Counselors and Specialist roles; 21+ for Healthcare, Manager, and Leadership positions).
Commitment to the entire camp season and employment term for the intended role (see "Employment Dates" listed in the position being considered).
Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED.
Must be able to obtain current First Aid/CPR certification prior to camper's first day of arrival.
Adaptability in interacting with all age levels and adults; prior experience working with youth and familiarity with working in outdoor camp settings.
Desire to be a positive role model and mentor to campers, in addition to working well on a team.
Room and Board
Room and board is provided for all Overnight Camp staff during training and while campers are on property. Staff can choose to remain living onsite during weekend off-days through the season, but are welcome to leave the property and return prior to the start of the next camper session.
Meals are provided during training and while campers are on site. Most special dietary needs and restrictions can be accommodated when given enough notification.
Employee Perks
Most sessions are Monday-Friday. Three sessions are 12 day sessions which include the weekends. Throughout the summer, roughly half the weekends will be working weekends while the other you are free.
Staff also receive at least 2 hours off per day as well as one night per week of free time.
Opportunities to get trained and certified in lifeguarding and challenge course facilitation are available to select staff prior to the summer term. We also offer referral bonuses to current camp staff who recommend other adventurous, qualified individuals that work with us through the season!
Getting Here and Getting Around
Camp staff are responsible for their own transportation to and from camp on an almost weekly basis. If you do not have access to transportation or you are coming from out of state, please contact your camp director who can assist you in making arrangements.

Girl Scouts San Diego is a 100+ year old organization, serving girls throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties. Camp is a longstanding tradition, and our Camp Winacka site turns 50 this year in 2026! Background in leading & coordinating large-scale programs and youth-focused activities, preferably in a camp setting.
Experience with supervising other staff members.
Certification in instructing archery, challenge course facilitation, lifeguarding, or other activities is a plus.
Skilled in logistics, planning, and team collaboration.
Current First Aid/CPR certification.
Valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and proof of insurance.
Conduct health checks and provide day-to-day medical care
Treat illnesses/injuries and respond to emergencies
Oversee Health Center operations and the healthcare team
Review and maintain medical records
Manage inventory of medical supplies
Orient staff to camp medical services and health protocols
Guide staff in assembling and maintaining first aid kits
Impactful Summer: Directly contribute to campers’ safety and confidence as they explore new activities.

Diverse Experience: Gain experience providing healthcare for youth and adults in a unique overnight camp setting.

Compensation: $252 - $271 per day (includes meals and lodging)
Location: Live onsite at our overnight camp in Julian, CA
California-licensed Licensed Prescriber or Registered Nurse.
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
Commitment to work the full camp season (June 1 - July 25, 2026).
Comfortable handling a range of health-related needs for youth and adults; prior work in an overnight camp or school environment is a plus.
Ready to thrive in camp life, adapting to a rustic environment with variable weather and close community living.
Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
Develop individualized support plans for campers who may need behavioral guidance or social-emotional support.
Communicate with guardians and camp leadership staff to understand campers’ mental, social, and emotional needs.
Support counselors with strategies and program adaptations and respond to behaviors or situations as they arise.
Assist with facilitating fun aspects of camp like waterfront programming, arts & crafts, nature activities, and more.

BA/BS degree (or equivalent work experience) in the field of child development, inclusion, or social work; experience in an administrative or supervisory youth camp role is a plus.

Assist with planning, facilitation and operation of high and low ropes courses.
Lead fun, safe challenge course and teambuilding experiences.
