About Garland Lodge & Golf Resort

Garland Lodge and Golf Resort was founded in 1953 by Herman Otto, as a small 9 hole golf course for his friends and family. Since then, Garland has expanded to become a seasonal golf resort boasting four championship courses (plus our 'new in 2026' short course - The Sawyer), nestled in Northern Michigan on 1,500 acres of wooded lands, streams, and lakes with the largest commercial log cabin structure on the Eastern side of the Mississippi.

We’ve grown from a small golf course into a huge resort, but we’ve never lost our small-town heart. Garland, like the small town of Lewiston, is marked by its close-knit, caring community. Being part of the Garland team is to be among friends.

We have always been about our staff, and serving our guests with the highest caliber of excellence. We honor loyalty and recognize individuals for their hard work. We show up for each other, and help each other. We want you to be a part of the Garland family!

The Employee Experience

If you ask the current employees what they love about working at Garland, they will undoubtedly tell you that they love working here because of the people. Our community is one that demonstrates true care with each other. You will find that employees help one another in many ways - at work and outside of work.

From a management perspective, we are always trying to find ways to offer incentive programs and in-house perks for our employees to enjoy. We care about the well-being of our staff, and you'll see that from the top down. In the hospitality industry, we extend hospitality to one another. Often times, you will see managers  working alongside servers, dishwashers, or housekeepers.

We value a "can do" attitude, positive thinking, and a commitment to making Garland the best resort in Northern Michigan!

Ideal Candidate

Our goal is that every staff member would exceed the expectations of our guests, every day, by creating one smile at a time! Employees are to be kind, personable, and thrive in an environment where our primary objective is to serve our guests with excellence and create an unparalleled experience for them.

Team members are expected to treat others as they would like to be treated, and to have a "can do, will do," attitude. We are all a part of the Garland community, and we make our community better for everyone when we serve our guests as well as our fellow team members.

Our resort gets very, very busy in the summertime, and you never know where you may get asked to step up and fill a gap in staffing. You should be focused on executing your tasks well in a fast paced environment, and also flexible and willing to step up and serve if your skills and time are needed.

Due to the location of our resort, having a love for the outdoors and the recreational activities that come along with living in Northern Michigan would suit you well.

Room and Board

Garland Lodge & Resort is able to provide a limited amount of housing in various settings for summer employees. Once housing has been filled, it is filled. The cost of room and board is $400/month, with $200 being deducted automatically from each pay check (which comes biweekly). We require a $400 deposit that is refundable pending unit inspection upon departure.

Garland offers single bed/bath units in the Fairway Apartments, located just down the road from the resort. These rooms can host up to 2 people with bunked beds. Each room is furnished  with a bed, dresser, mini-fridge and microwave. Some units also come with a table and chairs and an extra dresser (depending on furniture availability). There is a community kitchen and laundry as well as access to trash on site. There is an area for recreational activities and camp fires. Parking is on site.

Wireless Internet is available through local carriers.

Employee Perks

- Bonus programs such as the employee referral program and seasonal bonus offerings
- Employee Golf Rates
- Free Soda Machine
- Discounted employee lunch and discounted rates at resort restaurant during your shift/lunch break
- Discounts on lodging for employee's family and friends

Getting Here and Getting Around

We recommend flying into Detroit (DTW), Flint (FNT), Traverse City (TVC), or Alpena (APN). Routes to the resort will depend on your airport of choice. Lewiston is located a little more than 30 miles off of Interstate I-75. Pick up and drop off from an airport can be discussed and considered.

Due to our remote location, there is no public transportation. Personal vehicles are encouraged, and bikes to travel between the main lodge and employee housing are acceptable forms of transportation as well. If needed, a shuttle service to the lodge for daily work and to the local grocery store on Sundays will be provided.

For Fun

While staying with us at Garland, we encourage you to take advantage of the numerous outdoor recreational activities available. During your time off, you can play a round of golf, go hiking, running or biking through acres of untouched woodlands, and spend your time fishing, swimming, boating, kayaking, or canoeing one of the many lakes surrounding beautiful Lewiston!

The community of Lewiston is small and intimate. Though it may seem like there's "not a lot to do," from the outside, the locals know how to make their fun, and summertime is one of the BEST seasons in Northern Michigan! We have no doubt that you would find a place here and people to make memories with during your stay.
