Seasonal Camp Cook – Cold Bay, Alaska
Late August – Early October 2026
We are seeking a reliable, self-directed cook to join our team for the first part of our fishing and waterfowl guiding season in Cold Bay, Alaska. We recently remodeled and expanded our lodge, including building a beautiful, modern kitchen that faces our grand dining hall and table seating 16. You'll have all the comforts of home and privacy from clients in staff housing separate from guest lodging. While Cold Bay is remote even by Alaska standards, we sit on the threshold of Izembek National Wildlife Refuge, a designated Wetland of International Importance and one of the most ecologically significant habitats in the world, important for migratory birds and Arctic species at a global scale.
We’re looking for someone who can operate independently, manage a kitchen without oversight, and consistently produce high-quality meals in a dynamic environment. Just as important, this role is central to the camp’s atmosphere—meals are when everyone comes together. Hospitality here isn’t formal; it’s genuine, steady, and rooted in taking care of people. We operate like a family, and the cook plays a big role in setting that tone.
What the role requires
Preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily for clients and crew
Creating a welcoming, comfortable dining experience - meals should feel like a natural gathering point at the start and end of each day
Working from a general menu while adapting to available inventory, timing, and conditions
Managing food thoughtfully - anticipating needs, minimizing waste, and making the most of what’s on hand
Maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen at all times
Keeping meals on schedule to align with hunting and fishing days
Contributing to a respectful, team-oriented camp environment
Food & preparation expectations
We are fortunate to have clients who like to enjoy eating their harvest. While not a requirement, experience with wild game is a plus:
Halibut, salmon, and cod
Waterfowl such as puddle ducks and Pacific Black Brant
Understanding how to properly handle, store, and prepare wild game and fresh-caught fish
Ability to create hearty, well-balanced meals that reflect the setting—simple, well-executed food that holds up in a remote camp environment
What we’re looking for
A problem solver who can think ahead, adjust quickly, and stay composed when plans change
Strong organizational and time-management skills—you’ll be running your own kitchen
Someone who takes pride not just in the food, but in taking care of people
Solid cooking fundamentals and experience preparing meals for small groups
Comfort living and working in a remote setting
Team-oriented, steady, and low-maintenance
Preferred experience
Previous work in lodges, outfitting camps, or remote kitchens
Familiarity with wild game and fish preparation is helpful, but not required
Personal interest in hunting, fishing, or working outdoors
What this offers
A focused, purpose-driven work environment with an experienced, capable crew and generous clients
Time to fish or hunt when responsibilities are handled
The opportunity to work in one of the most unique and ecologically important landscapes in North America
