- summer
Founded in 1922, the Elkhorn Ranch is one of the few remaining traditional dude ranches where outdoor activities are the focus each day. We are a family-oriented guest ranch with guests of all ages enjoying time with their friends, new and old, without sacrificing the very special feeling of shared family time.
Just a mile outside of Yellowstone Park and surrounded by the Gallatin National Forest and Wilderness.

Our location affords the best of all worlds - close to Yellowstone National Park, yet set apart and peacefully away from the big crowds. For generations of families, it has proven a truly special experience that uniquely captures the Western character and unrivaled beauty of America's last, best place.
There are twenty-six crew members during the summer months; we live on the ranch and all are encouraged to take part in activities when schedules allow. The heavy interaction between guests and crew is one of the things that everyone seems to enjoy most about the ranch.

Working at the Elkhorn is a very rewarding way to spend your summer. We really try to make the ranch as fun of an environment for not only our guests but also our crew as you are what makes the ranch come to life!
Also, the managers have all been in the guest ranch industry for a long time and have worked all positions along the way, so we not only know the roles but are more than willing to jump in when needed.
We are looking for people who take pride in a good day of hard work and want to be a part of the Elkhorn Family. Life on the Ranch is very rewarding, but it is not an effortless job. We ask that everyone be willing to help one another out, as there is no such thing as "that's not my job" on the Elkhorn. We also look for candidates who are passionate about the outdoors and are able to share that passion with others. No matter what department you work in you will interact with guests and a huge part of working on a guest ranch is the guest interaction.
All crew is provided room and board. There is an assortment of bunkhouses and shared cabins that have been around for 80-100+ years! Each cabin has its own character and unique style. Three very solid and delicious meals are provided every day (crew eats the same as guests), including Made-to-Order breakfast!
Laundry facilities are also available on the ranch with detergent provided at no cost.
The ranch provides room and board in addition to a competitive hourly wage. The crew is encouraged to take advantage of ranch activities when schedules allow. Besides amazing horseback riding, there are unlimited hiking trails and great fly-fishing.
The Elkhorn Ranch can be reached by flying into Bozeman or West Yellowstone. If you drive, we are on Highway 191, 33 miles north of West Yellowstone and 55 miles south of the Bozeman airport.
While we do recommend having a vehicle, the ranch has so much to offer on and nearby, that if you are without a car it is not the end of the world. You will have days off with other people and typically there is carpooling into Bozeman or Yellowstone between employees if you are without a car. Also, we have two town runners that run to town every weekend, so if there is something you need, we have a list that you can add to.
When not working, the crew is welcome to join rides on their day off. During their downtime they can enjoy all the ranch has to offer - fishing the Gallatin, hiking to many points, relaxing around the pond and creek, hanging out with the mares and foals, or just relaxing in the crew areas and your cabins. A lot of crew like to go camping on their days off, as well as on day trips around the Yellowstone area. This is a beautiful area to take advantage of hiking, fishing, and exploring Yellowstone Park.
We also like to provide fun outings a couple of times throughout the summer. Mainly in the pre-season, we try to go rafting, explore local ghost towns, tour Yellowstone. Throughout the guest season, we host movie screenings in the Rec Hall, throw monthly parties like 'Halloween in August', and have the occasional off-ranch crew outing to a rodeo or event in the area. In the post-season we try to organize an outing for the end of the season, last year we took three days off and visited Glacier National Park.
