    POSITION: Sous Chef Seasonal Job at Blue Bell Lodge, Custer State Park, SD


    INTERESTS :  Lodging and Meals provided. Season ending bonus offered ! Must be willing to relocate to picturesque Southern Black Hills region of Custer State Park near Custer, South Dakota. Seeking individual to work during the busy tourist and conference season at Blue Bell Lodge, one of four historic lodge properties in the Park.     QUALIFICATIONS:  Prefer candidates available from May 1- Oct 25. Work commitment times can be somewhat negotiated. Seeking candidates with solid line cooking and some prep kitchen experience. Need supervisory experience. Able to do some purchasing and inventory. Able to do scheduling. Need ability to be self-directed and to accomplish assigned tasks.  Must have some knowledge of food safety practices. Need good team skills, able to train and coach staff on the spot, high energy and quality food orientation.


    BENEFITS :  Up to $ 2800 / mo. wage. Based upon qualifications. Lodging and meals provided free

    ( as $ 500 / mo. package ) with applicable taxes. Season ending bonus up to $400. Park activity discounts; all set against the backdrop of one of the most picturesque areas of our country. Opportunity for full time employment with award winning 17 unit WR Hospitality at end of season.


    LOCATION : Custer State Park is nestled in the Southern Black Hills National Forest Region.  The Black Hills are a busy tourist destination for horseback trail rides, old west cookouts, hiking, climbing, biking and fly fishing. Breathtaking Forest backgrounds, panoramic mountain views and abundant wildlife such as Deer, Elk, Big Horn Sheep, Mountain Goats and the nation’s largest free-roaming buffalo herd are all a part of the scenery.


    RESTAURANT / LODGE/ CABIN INFORMATION : Restaurant is casual restaurant with early century Rustic Cowboy / Mountain / Lodge design, dark hard wood accents, massive custom stone fireplace, with separate bar area. Seating up to 120. Patio seating for 40 with mountain creek view. Party rooms for 80 and 30 seating. The log sleeping cabins have vaulted ceilings and stone fireplaces. All cabins are climate controlled, fully furnished, and include daily housekeeping service. They also come with telephones, flat screen TVs, coffee pots, and kitchen or kitchenette equipment and outdoor firepits. There are larger cabins for up to 16 people perfect for reunions and gatherings


    The menu offers serves up true Western flavor, with cattle-drive classics featuring bison and even some rattlesnake sausage, steaks, burgers, sandwiches and western comfort food. Our chuck-wagon cookouts, a Blue Bell tradition, is a hay-wagon ride through the scenic backcountry of the park into a secluded canyon with an old-fashioned chuck-wagon dinner, complete with Western entertainment.

How to Apply

Our season runs from May through Mid-October. Preference is giving to applicants who are available to work the entire season. We expect most of our employees to work at least through Labor Day weekend. Some positions start in April and last until November.

Please be specific and realistic with your starting  and ending dates on the application - these will become your contracted dates.

It is helpful to include two letters of reference on letter-head from past employers. Whether or not letters are available, be sure to fill out the work history section of the application as completely as possible. Applications that do not contain complete reference information will not be processed.

Selection is based upon availability dates, flexibility, previous work experience, and past performance as noted in reference checks. Our hiring decisions begin in January and continue throughout the season. A contract will be sent to those applicants offered a position, along with more information about the Company and the Park.
