Looking for a unique and rewarding cooking experience? Spend your summer as the Head Cook at Camp Nor’wester, leading a kitchen team to provide nutritious, delicious meals for a vibrant community of campers and staff on a stunning island in the Pacific Northwest!
As Head Cook, you’ll take a leadership role in the kitchen, helping to prepare and serve meals for up to 275 people. You’ll work closely with other kitchen and camp leadership to ensure smooth meal service, adapt menus as needed, support a hardworking team in a fast-paced but fun environment and help create a welcoming, efficient food service experience!
Who We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking an experienced, adaptable cook who thrives in a high-volume kitchen and values teamwork. If you love the idea of cooking in a rustic setting, collaborating with a fun and dedicated team, and being part of a summer camp community, this could be the perfect role for you! Experience in cooking for large groups and/or special diets (gluten- free, vegetarian, etc.) is preferred. Great opportunity for on the job growth, support and training. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
This role is ESSENTIAL to successfully running Camp each summer. While the responsibilities do not include camper supervision and unit support, they fill an integral role in daily camp operations, providing support in a variety of areas very necessary to Camp and are integrated within the camp community.
Where & When:
Location: Johns Island, WA – a breathtaking, small island in the San Juan Islands of Washington. Staff live and work in a close-knit, supportive camp community.
Room & Board: All room and board provided. The Head Cook will have their own canvas tent and will have accommodations provided on San Juan Island for their Time Off.
Season Dates: ASAP – August 21, 2026 (with the option to extend to August 25)
We value what each of our staff have to offer – different skills and experiences, new perspectives on what our program provides and how we support young people in building their own interpersonal skills, confidence and independence.
