About Camp Kabeyun
Camp Kabeyun is an all-boys overnight summer camp, founded in 1924. Since our beginning, we have operated on an elective system of picking activities and trips, allowing each of our campers to build their own ideal summer by signing up for the activities they are interested in, when they are interested in them. Trips are signed up for at the start of each week, and activities are picked at Breakfast (for the morning) and Lunch (for the afternoon).
We offer a wide variety of options for our campers to select from, including an active waterfront with Swimming, Sailing, Wakeboarding/Waterskiing, Fishing, and Windsurfing; camp classics such as Tennis, Woodshop, the Ropes Course, Photography, and Archery; and an expansive Trips program that includes Hiking, Rock Climbing, Canoeing, and Kayaking.
The Employee Experience
In addition to leading (or co-leading) an activity, Kabeyun counselors also assume the role of a bunk counselor. Working alongside at least two other staff members, a counselor is responsible for supervising a cabin of between 6-10 campers. Each cabin is grouped generally by age, so while your cabin might have a mix of 10, 11, and 12 year-olds, it wouldn’t feature both a 9 year-old and a 14 year-old.
Because of this close proximity to a select number of boys, plus our elective system allowing campers to choose where and how they spend their time at camp, counselors develop deep and lasting bonds to the campers in their cabin and who frequent their activity. Many of those campers return summer after summer, further strengthening their connections to their peers and counselors, and often look forward to being able to join the staff themselves one day!
Ideal Candidate
The ideal Kabeyun counselor is interested and excited about working with children and has a passion for the activity they are responsible for instructing. They are willing and eager to engage with campers throughout the day and across camp, including in their cabin, at their activity, and in the dining hall during meals. They can function effectively as a supportive member of a team and consistently demonstrate flexibility and empathy in their interactions with fellow counselors and with campers.
Room and Board
Meals and housing are included as a part of working at Kabeyun. Each counselor has their own bunk and area, located in the camper cabin to which they are assigned, and the cabins are all in close proximity to bathrooms. Female staff also have separate, supplemental accommodations on the property, which include their own bathrooms.
Employee Perks
Depending on the needs of the various activities, some camp equipment may be made available for staff’s private use during time off. Staff has access to a lounge during time off, which is stocked with soft drinks and snacks by Kabeyun based on the requests of counselors.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Kabeyun is within two hours drive of Boston Logan and Manchester (NH) airports and can facilitate staff arrival/departure at one of those locations. We have a number of available parking spaces on site for personal vehicles, and driving is probably the easiest way to get to us, if possible. Having a car will also help with getting out of camp to explore and relax on days off, as there is not much in the way of available public transportation in our part of New Hampshire. Bring a bike, if you’ve got one!
For Fun
Kabeyun is located directly on Lake Winnipesaukee, in close proximity to the White Mountains, and within reasonable distance of a wide array of other lakes, rivers, and climbing destinations. Staff will often take advantage of our location to engage in paddling, hiking, climbing, or sailing on their time off, either furthering an existing passion or discovering a new one!

Activity Leader
Camp Counselor (In-camp Activity Leader)
Camp Kabeyun, an overnight camp for boys ages 8-15, located in Alton Bay, New Hampshire (directly on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee) is seeking counselors to lead in-camp activities for the summer of 2026, and join us in our 102nd year of operation!
Employment Dates and Compensation: June 21st - August 23rd, 2026, with a starting salary for first-year staff of $3,250 (Certification bonuses also available); housing and meals are included.
Since 1924, Kabeyun has endeavored to provide a unique and supportive environment for our campers to explore new and challenging experiences, develop new skills, and discover their individual capacity to accomplish whatever they set their mind to. While Kabeyun’s camper population is all boys, we hire counselors and staff regardless of their gender identity. We believe a diverse and varied team of staff and counselors helps us have a greater impact on our campers, and helps us promote a culture of acceptance and inclusion.
We are currently hiring for openings leading several activities in the in-camp portion of our program, including: Sailing, Swimming, Fishing, Windsurfing/Stand-up Paddleboarding, Music, and the Ropes Course. Staff instruct in their activity for four blocks a day (4 ½ hours per day), five days a week, and campers select their own activities each day as a part of our elective choice system.
In addition to leading their activity, all Kabeyun’s counselors also assume responsibility for co-supervising (along with at least two other staff members) a cabin of between 6-10 campers throughout the summer. They also assume some additional duties providing coverage during camper free times, such as lifeguarding open swims or co-leading a large athletic game after dinner. Counselors work six days a week, with one full day off per week.
While current certifications, past experience, and technical expertise are valued in potential candidates, Kabeyun is interested in any applicant who believes in our mission and wants to help enrich the lives of our campers.
