If you want a job that’s meaningful, adventurous, and outdoors every single day — this may be the place for you.
We’re hiring Outdoor Education Instructors to join our small (7-8 person) instructional team at Camp Allen. You’ll live on site, teach outdoors daily, and help school groups from K–12 discover nature, science, teamwork, adventure, and confidence!
Position Highlights: As an instructor, you’ll lead a variety of activities designed to engage students with nature, teach valuable outdoor skills, and spark curiosity about the environment. No two days are the same—one day, you may facilitate adventure classes like canoeing, archery, ziplining, or the giant swing, while the next day you may introduce students to environmental subjects such as forest ecology, organic gardening, herpetology, ornithology, or mammalogy using our diverse array of animal ambassadors.
Comprehensive training is provided in all areas, from adventure-based skills to wildlife education. You’ll also receive certifications, including:
Level 1 High Ropes Facilitator Training
NASP Archery Certification
Animal Care and Handling Training for reptiles, birds of prey, and more
(Optional) Lifeguard Certification
Basic First Aid/CPR
A comprehensive list of the activities we lead throughout the year can be found at https://www.campallen.org/student-curriculum.html
Our program is designed to support your growth as an instructor, providing hands-on experience, team collaboration, and opportunities to develop your facilitation skills throughout the season.
Schedule & Work Environment:
Full-time, Monday–Friday through August- May, with paid time off during Thanksgiving, Christmas and spring break. Optional hourly work available during weekends starting at $25/hr.
Variable schedule with rewarding, full days, sometimes from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays typically ending around 3pm.
No overnight supervision is required; instructors are responsible for students only during activity hours, with support from adult chaperones.
Outside of instructional hours, duties include curriculum development, facility upkeep, and animal care.
A small tight-knit staff of 7 full time instructors. With such a small team, every member is trained and expected to have a wide variety of skills and responsibilities.
What We Offer:
Room and Board: Private room with a shared kitchen, living area, and bathroom. Hot meals provided 5-7 days a week.
Pay ranging from $375-$400 per week based on experience
Health Care: Provided at no cost after 30 days of employment
Access to Facilities: Enjoy camp amenities during your off time, including swimming pools, basketball, pickleball, and tennis courts, gym, two lakes, and more
Beautiful Campus: A 1,100-acre "office" of woods, water, and wildlife
Close-Knit Team: Work alongside passionate, like-minded educators
Extra Pay for Weekend Work: Additional $25-35/hour for weekend activities if needed
What We’re Looking For: Qualified candidates will have:
A passion for inspiring and engaging youth and the curiosity to explore and teach new things
Stamina and athleticism to manage long hours and physical tasks, including standing for extended periods, hiking, handling heavy equipment, high ropes facilitation, and back to back educational instruction.
Flexibility to work outdoors in all weather conditions and adaptability for varied days
Comfort with heights and handling animals Though we do not require our instructors to climb or obtain L1 certification for our ropes course, it is a requirement to be willing to train on belaying and be willing to handle all ambassador animals, including reptiles, insects, and birds.
A Bachelor's degree OR relevant experience working with youth or in an outdoor setting. We value experience and passion over paper, but if you have a degree in a relevant field it is a plus!
An open mind and a fun-loving attitude that creates a positive learning atmosphere. We expect our staff to not only bring the energy and enthusiasm for their students, but to foster a supportive and fun environment amongst other staff members as well.
If you’re excited to share your love for the outdoors, engage with young learners, and join a team that values growth, exploration, and making memories, we’d love to hear from you!
