Broadreach Adventures leads immersive, international programs for teens. This position correlates to our land based programs, focused on ecology, wildlife and conservation, and are based primarily in Costa Rica, Ecuador and Bahamas. Participants build new skills and become better global citizens through hands-on discovery, travel and interaction with the world’s oceans, ecosystems and wildlife.
Instructors mentor and supervise students as they travel in a small group, complete community service projects, participate in high adventure activities, and observe local professionals. This is a 24/7 position and groups are eating meals together and staying at the same accommodations as they travel.
Instructors will attend training from June 7th to June 13th in Raleigh, NC.
We have two positions open for instructors.
One instructor will lead programs in the Bahamas (June 18 to July 31)
One instructor will lead programs in Costa Rica (June 22 to July 17)
Responsibilities include:
Mentor and travel with a group of students while guiding them through program objectives.
Facilitate inclusive group dynamics and maintain an inclusive community atmosphere.
Assist with leading discussions and giving talks about local culture and environment.
Confirm logistics with local outfitters for adventure based activities and meals.
Demonstrate respectful travel mindset and model this for students.
Ensure student’s safety and monitor physical and emotional well being of the group and manage student medical issues that may arise.
Some programs may require instructors to drive students in a 9 passenger van
Qualifications:
Experience working with Middle School or High School Students in a classroom setting, summer camp or trip leading capacity.
Group facilitation experience and an understanding of group dynamic and conflict resolution concepts.
A valid WFR certification throughout the course of the summer. (Broadreach hosts a WFR course in the spring, instructors can opt into the course and would be responsible for paying the course fee.)
Preferred Skills & Experience:
Instructors placed in Costa Rica are required to speak and understand Spanish in verbal and written form.
Instructors placed on our Bahamas program must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a vehicle with students.
The Wilderness First Responder course runs from June 1 to June 7. Instructors will attend training in Raleigh, NC from June 7 to June 13. Instructors will lead programs in their program location throughout June and July, program placement based on skills and experience.
This is a short term contract position. Food accommodations and flights are provided.
