Position Overview

We are seeking an Executive Chef to lead the culinary program at Beyul Retreat for the 2026 season.

This is not a traditional restaurant role. You’ll be at the heart of a retreat environment where food is deeply tied to the guest experience, from wellness retreats to weddings to corporate gatherings.

This role blends creativity and leadership with strong operational execution. You’ll have the opportunity to shape menus, build systems, and lead a small, dedicated team, all while working in a remote and beautiful mountain setting.

Key Responsibilities

Culinary Leadership & Menu Development

  • Execute seasonal, nourishing, and creative menus aligned with Beyul’s ethos

  • Adapt menus across retreats, weddings, and corporate groups

  • Accommodate a wide range of dietary needs (gluten-free, vegan, allergies, etc.)

  • Maintain high standards for flavor, presentation, and consistency

  • Create and document recipes for repeatability and team execution

Kitchen Operations

  • Oversee all daily kitchen operations from prep through service

  • Ensure efficient service for varying group sizes and schedules

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-functioning kitchen environment

  • Implement and uphold systems for prep, service, and breakdown

  • Manage the kitchen schedule that is completed by designated Sous Chef

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Interview, train, and manage kitchen staff (Sous Chef, prep cooks, dishwashers)

  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable kitchen culture

  • Set clear expectations and provide ongoing feedback and support

  • Lead by example with professionalism, adaptability, and composure

  • Manage kitchen staff including BOH/FOH

Ordering, Inventory & Cost Management

  • Manage food ordering which includes making prep lists, tracking what events are coming down the pipeline, ordering according to guest count and dietary restrictions

  • Manage vendor relationships and sourcing of ingredients

  • Track and maintain inventory levels

  • Monitor food cost and reduce waste

  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure all food safety and sanitation standards are upheld

  • Maintain compliance with local health regulations

  • Train staff on proper food handling and kitchen safety procedures

  • High awareness of food allergies and sensitivities in kitchen practices

Collaboration & Guest Experience

  • Collaborate with front-of-house, events, and operations teams

  • Align menus and service with retreat schedules and guest expectations

  • Occasionally engage with guests to enhance the overall experience

Qualifications

  • 3–7+ years of culinary experience, with prior leadership as a Head Chef or Executive Chef preferred

  • Strong background in high-volume, catering, retreat, or hospitality environments

  • Proven experience managing a team and kitchen operations

  • Deep understanding of food systems, prep flow, and service execution

  • Experience with menu development and dietary accommodations

  • Food Safety Certification required

The Ideal Candidate

  • Is both a creative chef and a strong operator

  • Thrives in a dynamic, ever-changing environment

  • Has a passion for healthy, nourishing, and intentional food

  • Brings calm, grounded leadership under pressure

  • Values community, collaboration, and shared living environments

  • Is adaptable, resourceful, and solutions-oriented

  • Takes pride in building systems, not just executing meals

  • Enjoys remote mountain living and has a dependable car

Additional Details

  • Seasonal role: May–October 2026

  • Remote mountain location (1 hour from Aspen)

  • Housing support available

  • Must be comfortable working long, active days in a fast-paced environment

  • A car is a requirement for this position
