Summer Hostel Manager Position - Explore Alaska while hosting travelers from around the world!

Our hostel provides shared accommodations to travelers from around the world.  Our focus is creating a diverse community atmosphere and helping travelers explore Alaska and its surrounding glaciers, mountains, and backcountry.  We are looking for someone who loves hostels, has experience in management, and a passion for the outdoors and sharing it with others.  

Our position requires a diverse set of skills:  

• Good interpersonal skills and enjoys engaging and socializing with guests.  

• Loves hiking and desires to share their knowledge of local hikes and places to visit. (if new to Alaska we will train you). 

• Basic office skills to register guests and handle payments.  

• Strong work ethic and multitasking skills

• Good housekeeping skills which include cleaning and preparing beds.  

• Management experience preferred to help train and manage 1 to 2 volunteers who will help keep our hostel clean.

• Work 12 hour shifts 3 to 4 days per week.  One additional 4 to 5 hour shift per week includes driving and hiking with guests in our local mountains. 

We are located in the city of Anchorage, an ideal location for travelers visiting Alaska and less than a 5 minute walking distance to cafes, restaurants, and nightlife.  We are all about community and over the years we have added to our atmosphere with a wood-burning sauna, gardens, chickens, sensory deprivation float tank, and rental bicycles to explore the surrounding trails.  We also rent backcountry gear to help guests explore Alaska and recently acquired a 15-passenger van to take guests hiking in our mountains.  We strive to increase our sustainability with solar panels, composting, and recycling and host live music sessions periodically throughout the summer.

• Pay:  $28.20/hr includes free accommodations, utilities, and WIFI.

• 3 to 4 days off per week to explore Alaska with other guests or staff.  

• We provide transportation to guests to our local mountains, staff can join in for free when not working.

• Free use of our amenities:  bicycles, float tank, sauna, and rental gear.

This position is ideal for people who are world travelers, love hostels, and enjoy meeting travelers from around the world.    Our hostel is seasonal and only open between May to September.
