Position Overview
Aloha Camp is seeking a Woodworking Counselor to lead woodworking activity periods for Summer 2026! Staff in our woodworking department support campers as they learn and maintain safety protocols, become comfortable with hand and power tools, and develop their practical skills through woodworking projects. The counselor will teach woodworking fundamentals, guide campers through hands-on projects, and maintain a safe and organized workshop environment. Past projects in our woodworking department have included clocks, box speakers, cutting boards, small tables, etc. This position is a great summer opportunity for shop educators, woodworkers, carpenters, or others with hands-on woodworking experience who enjoy working with young people and sharing their knowledge and passion for these skills.
Activity periods run Monday-Saturday from 10-12 and 3-5. Flexible scheduling options may be available, and residential or commuting arrangements can be discussed.
Key Responsibilities
Teach and maintain woodshop safety protocols for campers and staff & supervise camper use of tools and equipment
Oversee the operation and day-to-day maintenance of power tools and woodworking equipment
Select, plan, and facilitate camper woodworking projects
Guide campers through project design and construction
Work collaboratively with other woodworking staff to support the program
Work within the mission and values of Aloha Camp
Qualifications
Background in woodworking, carpentry, or shop education
Ability to teach and supervise youth in a hands-on environment
Experience safely operating power tools (tablesaw, planer, drill press, router)
Maintaining and repairing aforementioned power tools
Ability to prepare/process rough lumber in to project ready stock for campers
Candidates must be 21 years of age or older
