About Alaska Bear Adventures / K Bay Air
Working with Alaska Bear Adventures/ K Bay Air can be a dream come true for people who seek adventure while working a seasonal position. We are a family-owned and operated business in our 17th season. We work very closely as a team, while striving to provide the best bear viewing adventures for our guests. We understand that for our staff to help visitors decide if this adventure is right for them, our staff must also experience the adventure. Each staff member will have the opportunity to fly in a small plane to remote areas of Alaska to view brown bears.
The Employee Experience
At Alaska Bear Adventures, we work together as a team. At the beginning of the season, you will be trained by one of our experienced staff members. Once you are comfortable with the daily duties, you will be in a self-motivated, independent environment. Customer service staff may work at one of our offices helping customers learn more about our trips and making reservations, or at the hangar and/or float plane lake helping customers get prepared for their adventure. Your day will be filled talking with guests about to expect on one of our trips, making and confirming reservations, checking existing guests in for trips, and preparing guests for their trip.
Ideal Candidate
Are you self-motivated? Do you like a fast-paced day, while being in a casual working environment? Do you like sharing knowledge about the beauty and wilds of Alaska? Do you want to fly in a small airplane to view brown bears so you have current knowledge to share?
If you answer yes to these questions, then this position is for you.
We are looking for reliable staff who are excited about flying, Alaska, and the wilderness. The ideal candidate will be trustworthy, timely, have good attention to detail, and be comfortable learning the reservation system we use. Most importantly, the ideal candidate will be friendly and enjoy working in a team environment.
Room and Board
A monthly housing stipend is provided for qualifying candidates.
Employee Perks
One of the best parts about this job is getting to take the bear viewing adventures and fly in small airplanes through the Alaskan wilderness. One of the training requirements for this position is learning more about the trips, which means, you will get to go see the bears yourself!
We also try to organize multiple company get togethers (barbecues, beach bomb fires, or sometimes even trips across the bay) throughout the summer to help blow off steam while working so hard during our short season.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Although Homer is a small town, you may prefer to have your own vehicle so you can explore the surrounding areas. If you have housing in downtown Homer, then you could get around with a bike, but you may still prefer having a vehicle. For the occasional trip there are taxi services in town, but they are not an economically viable option for regular use.
If you work here for the summer, you will most likely decide to fly up to Alaska, but you can drive through Canada as well (it's probably a much longer drive than you think though). If you choose to fly to Alaska, you will fly into Anchorage and then will need to get a bus or flight to travel the ~250 miles south to Homer.
For Fun
Homer offers many adventures for those who love the outdoors: sea kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, aviation, hiking, beaches, outdoor music festivals, photography, and fine dining. If you enjoy the wilderness, you will love Homer.
