Job Details
Tutka Bay Lodge is a remote, luxury wilderness lodge nestled along the shores of Kachemak Bay, Alaska. Surrounded by towering spruce trees, rugged coastline, and incredible natural beauty, our lodge offers guests an intimate and unforgettable Alaskan experience.
We are looking for a talented, hardworking, and creative Facilities & Property Manager to join our leadership team for the 2027 season.
This is not your typical maintenance position. We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their work, enjoys solving problems, appreciates living and working in the wilderness, and finds satisfaction in making a beautiful property even better.
Our ideal candidate is a skilled jack-of-all-trades with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and an eye for detail. Someone who notices what needs attention before being asked, enjoys working with their hands, and brings fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the property.
Responsibilities
Property Maintenance & Improvements
● Oversee general maintenance and upkeep of guest cabins, boardwalks, decks, trails, and common areas.
● Perform carpentry, basic plumbing, light electrical repairs, and general handyman projects within appropriate qualifications.
● Maintain and improve the appearance, functionality, and safety of the property.
● Identify opportunities for property improvements and help bring new ideas to life.
Water Systems & Environmental Stewardship
● Oversee the lodge’s natural spring water collection, storage, and distribution systems.
● Monitor and document water collection, storage, and usage.
● Manage recycling, trash collection, waste organization, and disposal procedures.
● Help maintain environmentally responsible practices throughout the property.
Grounds & Equipment
● Maintain trails, pathways, landscaping, and outdoor guest areas.
● Perform yard maintenance, brush clearing, and appropriate tree trimming.
● Organize and maintain the workshop, tools, supplies, and equipment.
● Assist with gear upkeep, preventative maintenance, and seasonal projects.
● Coordinate firewood cutting, splitting, stacking, and stocking for guest and lodge use.
Guest & Team Support
● Assist with guest luggage, arrivals, departures, and aircraft landing support in accordance with established safety procedures.
● Help with dishes and other lodge operations when needed.
● Work collaboratively with our hospitality, culinary, adventure, and management teams.
● Be a friendly, positive presence around guests and fellow employees.
We are looking for someone who is:
● Handy and resourceful. Comfortable tackling a wide variety of maintenance challenges and finding practical solutions.
● Self-motivated. Able to recognize what needs to be done, prioritize projects, and work independently.
● Creative and forward-thinking. Excited to bring new ideas for improving the lodge, not simply maintaining the status quo.
● Organized and responsible. Takes pride in a well-maintained workshop, properly functioning systems, and a safe, beautiful property.
● A team player. Willing to jump in wherever help is needed, whether that’s fixing a boardwalk, hauling luggage, or washing dishes.
● Positive and adaptable. Understands that working at a remote Alaskan lodge requires flexibility, patience, a sense of humor, and a can-do attitude.
● Passionate about the outdoors. Appreciates the wilderness, respects the environment, and enjoys living and working in a remote setting.
Experience in carpentry, general property maintenance, mechanical systems, plumbing, and basic electrical work is highly desirable. Previous experience working in remote locations, resorts, lodges, or off-grid properties is a plus.
What Makes This Position Special
At Tutka Bay Lodge, our facilities manager plays an essential role in creating the guest experience. Every beautiful boardwalk, cozy cabin, well-maintained trail, and thoughtfully cared-for space contributes to the magic of this place.
We value initiative, craftsmanship, creativity, and pride in ownership.

This is an opportunity to become part of a close-knit team, live and work in an extraordinary wilderness setting, and make a lasting impact on a truly special property.
Compensation and benefits: To be discussed based on experience and qualifications.
To Apply: Please send your resume to employment@withinthewild.com , relevant experience, and a short introduction telling us why this opportunity interests you.
We look forward to finding someone who will care for Tutka Bay Lodge with the same pride, creativity, and enthusiasm that we do.
