We're on the lookout for an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Camp Director to help us manage our beautiful 94-acre camp site, Camp Whittier. If you love the great outdoors, have a knack for organization, and enjoy working with people, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

Summary:

As the Assistant Camp Director, you'll support the daily operations of Camp Whittier, focusing on facilities management, retreats, rentals, service delivery, staff supervision and training, user group administration, and building community and client relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communication: Maintain detailed communication with the Camp Director on all camp matters.

  • Office Management: Follow office operations and procedures, control correspondence, design filing systems, handle billing and collecting, and improve office procedures as needed.

  • Customer Service: Ensure office efficiency, cleanliness, and exhibit a high standard of customer service at all times.

  • Administrative Support: Answer telephones, screen and direct calls, take and relay messages in a timely manner.

  • Facilities Management: Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the physical properties and equipment of the camp, including use of facilities by outside groups.

  • Community Relations: Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, and other organizations to build and sustain user group relationships and develop partnerships.

  • Marketing: Promote the camp to potential future user groups through tours, phone calls, print materials, etc.

  • Volunteer Coordination: Recruit and coordinate with volunteer and service groups.

  • Leadership: Exercise authority in problems relating to user groups and camp issues when the Camp Director is absent.

  • Staff Recruitment: Work with the Camp Director to recruit and train camp staff.

  • Program Assistance: Provide assistance for camp programs, housekeeping, or kitchen help when needed.

  • Safety: Ensure a healthy and safe environment for all staff and facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintained.

Program Responsibilities:

  • Eling’s Math and Science Program: Oversee the promotion and development of the program.

  • Creative Programming: Initiate new and creative program ideas, promoting and stimulating program participation.

  • School Outreach: Travel to school sites as needed to present the Eling’s Math and Science program.

  • Staff Hiring: Hire seasonal Eling’s Math and Science program staff in coordination with the Camp Director; evaluate program delivery abilities of staff.

  • Activity Coordination: Coordinate all camp programs and activities with camp staff.

  • Safety Procedures: Ensure that camp staff and groups know and follow safety procedures.

  • Staff Training: Implement staff training programs, ensuring lessons are planned, prepped, and implemented to meet the Eling’s Math and Science program.

  • Effective Communication: Communicate effectively and timely with Eling’s Math and Science program groups, ensuring contracts, online registration, and waivers are submitted and followed up on in a timely manner.

Housing:

On-site housing is available for the Assistant Camp Director for a monthly fee.

Our specialty is running and developing programs that serve youth, focusing on Next Gen Standards that round out many STEM programs, they also incorporate concepts of Social Emotional Learning that give participants a lifelong memory.

Housing details
Camp Staff have the option for housing when working at our Camp Site. Staff housing is shared dorm-style rooms in a house on site. During programs, meals are provided for our staff.
