Making Dough in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate NY
Tony Harper's Pizza & Clam Shack has 3 locations with a fourth coming summer 2022. We are located in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate NY. We are a high volume restaurant that has a fun, cool vibe that caters to tourists and locals alike. We make quality fast casual food from scratch including our pizza that is made in house daily. We have a great sound system and feature music videos.
Old Forge is “Adirondack Base Camp” for visitors who launch out near and far seeking everything from serenity to adventure in the Adirondack Mountains. It is the largest hamlet in historic Town of Webb.
About Tony Harper's Pizza & Clam Shack, Inc
We like to think of ourselves as pioneers in an increasingly difficult industry. We find solutions together with our staff and move forward. When other restaurants were closing during the pandemic (some had no choice) we were re-inventing ourselves and our business model. We were lucky to be considered "essential" and were able to do take-out business. With our limited staff and no servers, we decided to experiment with tip pooling and working together as a team to get the job done. We doubled down on take-out service and implemented delivery. We had an amazing year. Fast forward to 2021. We still don't have "servers", and we kept the tip pool because we found out it works. Guests order at the bar or another station and we run the food to their table. This system has enabled us to absolutely rock the summer with increased sales, guest satisfaction, and great money for everyone. We have learned a lot about ourselves and our company. We love our guests but cherish our staff! Together anything is possible. We currently have three locations, and will have a fourth location by summer 2022. We are looking for seasonal employees, year round employees, part or full time. Any time you can devote to us is appreciated. Come live, work, and play with us in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains if only for a short while.
The Employee Experience
Have you heard the expression "work hard, play hard"? We think that sums it up. If you enjoy being busy while the hours fly by, this might be a good fit. If you are called upon to fill multiple positions and enjoy learning new things, this could be the place for you. If you sometimes find it exciting to be pushed out of your comfort zone a little by doing a job you are not familiar with or working with the public when you aren't used to it, than this is where you should be. We like to cross-train staff when they are willing. Most of our cooks also know how to take orders, some of our FOH staff like to get involved in the kitchen. We all do dishes occasionally. We are upbeat and guest obsessed even when our feet hurt. We gather with our coworkers, new friends, often with the regular guests you get to know. It's a small town. We watch the trains and the day trippers leave and we are left with the most beautiful landscape to call our own. People flock here for a reason. There is much to do and explore.
Self starter, motivated. People who truly enjoy making a difference. If you like going the extra mile to make a guest happy and enjoy working as a team, this will be a good fit.
Room and Board
We have staff housing that comes in many forms. We have a house across the street that has two apartments that are both 2 bedrooms. Bedrooms are either single or shared depending on the apartment. We have 6 rooms above the restaurant in Old Forge. These rooms are all different configurations. We also have housing at our Raquette Lake location (summer season only). We have a large apartment at our Lowville location and will have housing at our newest location in Inlet, NY. There is a fee for housing of $100 per week. This includes internet and all utilities. Housing is available on a first come, first served basis. We try to house friend groups together when possible. All housing is either onsite or within walking distance. Housing is limited to staff working full time.
We offer end of season bonuses based on hours worked and completing the season. Free gym memberships are available. We have a few seasonal ski passes for this winter. We get day passes for Water Safari, NY's largest water park located a few blocks away.
Getting Here and Getting Around
You can fly into NYC and take a train to Utica, NY where you then either get a cab or Uber to Old Forge which is approximately 50 miles. We can arrange transport from Utica if you arrive during daytime working hours. We are 50 miles away from the nearest city which is Utica, NY. We are about 2 hours from Syracuse, NY and about the same distance from Albany, NY. We are pretty far up north, about 4 hours from Vermont. We recommend having a car but it's not necessary as you can walk to everything in town. We do not charge for the first week of housing to help offset the cost of transportation.
We are within walking distance of the beach, shopping, and restaurants. Old Forge has a water park, as well as a ski resort, McCauley Mountain. You can swim, boat, water ski, hike, kayak, climb mountains, mountain bike, camp, ride the chair lift, and go white water rafting (summer). Winter months you can ski, snowshoe, go sledding, snowmobiling, ice skating, and ice fishing. There are many events during both summer and winter.
