Housing details
All of our warehouses and outposts have either sleeping facilities or space for camping. Guide lounge, wireless internet, bath and basic kitchen facilities are also provided. Guides typically choose to camp, sleep in their vehicle or use one of the cots or indoor sleeping spaces depending on their personal preference. There is no charge to guides for use of these facilities.

Room and Board

Our rafting outposts offer the ability to camp on property with access to communal facilities like kitchens and a shower/bathroom. Lunch is included during any day trips and all meals are included on our multi-day expeditions.

    Bike Tours Manager

    Coeur d'Alene

    Oversee the day-to-day operations of ROW’s bicycle and e-bike tours in both North Idaho and Washington’s Olympic Peninsula.  Lead ROW’s team of guides in meeting the goal of providing high quality multi-day trips by ensuring that standard policies and procedures are followed.  Responsible for supporting and supervising all aspects of domestic bike tours in the Northwest during the busy summer season.  This includes logistical concerns, equipment, supplies, transportation, clerical, guide coordination, communication with office staff and Director of Operations, etc. The position requires the orchestration of trips to and from the trail, assuring that they flow safely and efficiently, while minimizing stress on guides and team leaders.  

    Employment Status: This is a seasonal full-time, partial-salaried position. Exact start and ending dates will depend on bookings and trip launches

    Location: Coeur d’Alene, ID/ Spokane, WA (or nearby)

    Description: This is a seasonal, full time, hybrid salaried/ daily wage position based in Coeur d’Alene, ID and runs from approximately early May through mid September.  It is expected that this person will lead three out of every four trips.  During the rotation off of the trail, it is expected equipment maintenance and repair, paperwork and other “catch up” would occur.  For a first-season Bike Tours manager, we require a minimum of two weekdays at the ROW office in Coeur d’Alene for training and orientation prior to the beginning of the season.  (Depending on the experience of the applicant, more than two days may be required.)

    • Attendance at ROW’s Manager Training held in early May is mandatory.
    • Attendance at ROW’s Staff Trip held in early May is mandatory.

    General Expectations of Managers: ROW Managers serve as role models for guides in a number of ways, including the following: prioritizing safety; exhibiting a positive attitude and good work ethic; willingness to resolve conflicts whether between themselves and other guides or managers, or between guides who are having difficulties.  They are expected to comply with all ROW policies and to inform the Director of Operations if they disagree or will have trouble enforcing one, prior to the season. Conflicts with guides, managers and company owners shall be handled in a direct manner, with a focus on finding solutions and preventing future problems.  ROW expects its managers to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times that they are at a work site, whether they are working or not.  They are asked to be aware of the image they project to others, including ROW guests and the general public.  Managers must exhibit an ability to accept criticism and openness to feedback.  Finally, managers embrace ROW's commitment to excellence and are willing to continually work toward improving their knowledge and skills both on and off the trail.  

    Requirements: Must have excellent leadership, first aid and guest service skills.  Must have the skills to manage and maintain ROW’s fleet of e-bikes and standard bicycles, prior experience running bike tours is preferred.  Must be a team player, have strong communication skills, effective logistics/problem-solving skills, excellent ability to get along with others, willing to participate in manager meetings, and serve as a role model of ROW policies and systems. Must exhibit openness to feedback and the ability to accept constructive criticism.  Must have a current Wilderness First Responder(WFR) or other advanced First Aid certification(OEC, EMT, WEMT, WEC) as well as current CPR or the ability to obtain prior to beginning work.

    Reporting Relationship: This position reports directly to the ROW Operations Manager or ROW Director of Operations.

    Compensation: Partially salaried, with additional daily wages accrued for the time leading trips (variable, dependent on experience). Additional tasks are compensated hourly.

    Bike Tours Guide

    $160.00 - $220.00 / day + tips

    We are seeking bike tour guides as we expand our offerings of bike tours !  ROW guides are a fun-loving, thoughtful and talented group of people with a tremendous passion for the natural world.  In addition to having some technical biking skills and bike repair skills, we are looking for people with a passion to learn about the history of the areas we visit.  As much as we love biking, we love sharing nature with our guests even more. Guiding for ROW can be hard work, full of long hours in often physically demanding situations. Yet we find it immensely rewarding to enrich lives through safe and memorable outdoor adventure. To do so, ROW hires guides who are committed to excellence in hospitality and safety, provide meaningful interpretation to guests, support conservation efforts, desire to grow and learn, and who seek to set the high water mark in their professional and personal lives.     Guide Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Safely lead biking tours
    • Excellent risk management capability in remote settings
    • Work positively with other team members to implement all aspects of a ROW trip from pack-up to clean-up in order to provide guests with a safe, meaningful and memorable experience
    • Engage and respond to guests in a positive, friendly and supportive manner, including meeting their expressed and unexpressed needs
    • Provide meaningful interpretation to our guests on natural and cultural history topics pertinent to the trip, such as geology, cultural history, etc. 
    • Lead guest activities as suggested by the bike  tour itinerary 
    • Take care of ROW equipment and facilities
    • Professionally represent ROW and its Mission, Vision and Values
    • Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in ROW's Guide Manual
    • Act as a good steward of the natural world and follow Leave No Trace practices
    • Perform other duties, including a minimum of 10 hours of off-river warehouse work each season, as needed or assigned

    • Professionally care for and maintain ROW's bicycles, E-Bikes, vehicles and trailers

    • Perform other duties, including a minimum of 10 hours of end of season cleanup work as needed or assigned

     Guide Qualifications:

    • Legally allowed to work in the United States
    • At least one year of previous commercial bike guiding experience; multi-day experience preferred
    • A current 16 hour minimum (WFA) or higher advanced First Aid certification (WEC, WAFA, WFR, WEMT, EMT preferred) along with current CPR
    • A positive, supportive team player
    • Excellent verbal communication skills
    • Physically fit, able to work long hours in the field and lift and load bikes on and off vehicles 
    • Willing and eager to interact positively with a range of age groups, from small children to seniors
    • Experience in guest services or group leadership preferred
    • Academic or professional background or equivalent experience in natural science, western American history, environmental education or conservation related field preferred
    • Ability to follow ROW's drug-free and tobacco free workplace policy

Guiding for ROW can be hard work, full of long hours in often physically demanding situations. Yet we find it immensely rewarding to enrich lives through memorable outdoor adventures. To do so, ROW hires guides who are committed to excellence in hospitality and safety, provide meaningful interpretation to guests, support conservation efforts, desire to grow and learn, and who seek to set the high water mark in their professional and personal lives.     • Provide meaningful interpretation to our guests on natural and cultural history topics pertinent to the trip, such as geology, Wild and Scenic Rivers, early homesteaders, Pacific salmon etc.
    • Lead guest activities, such as hikes, camp games, storytelling or campfire music
    • Prepare tasty, appealing riverside meals
    • Take care of ROW equipment and facilities
    • Professionally represent ROW and its Mission, Vision and Values
    • Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in ROW's Guide Manual
    • Act as a good steward of the natural world and follow Leave No Trace practices
    • Perform other duties, including a minimum of 15 hours of off-river warehouse work each season, as needed or assigned

    Guide Qualifications:

    • Legally allowed to work in the United States
    • At least one year of previous commercial whitewater guiding experience; multi-day experience and experience with both oar and paddle rafts preferred
    • A current Wilderness First Responder(WFR) or other advanced First Aid certification (WEC, OEC, WEMT, EMT) along with current CPR or the ability to obtain prior to beginning work
    • Certified Swiftwater Rescue Technician 1 or higher at some point in professional career
    • A positive, supportive team player
    • Excellent verbal communication skills
    • Physically fit, able to work long hours in the field and lift and carry heavy objects over awkward terrain
    • Willing and eager to interact positively with a range of age groups, from small children to seniors
    • Experience in guest services or group leadership preferred
    • Academic or professional background or equivalent experience in natural science, western American history, environmental education or conservation related field preferred
    • Ability to follow ROW's drug and tobacco free workplace policy
