Job Details

Paintrock Canyon Ranch is seeking a Wrangler who will play a central role in giving guests the vacation of a lifetime through exceptional hospitality, safe and memorable horseback experiences, and warm, attentive engagement. As one of the primary guest-facing members of our team, the Wrangler leads trail rides across the ranch and surrounding public lands, shares the story and mission of Ranchlands, and helps create meaningful connections to the landscape. This role is equal parts horsemanship, guest service, and outdoor leadership—offering an immersive opportunity to live and work on our working ranch set at the base of the Bighorn Mountains while contributing to the heart of our hospitality program.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Welcome and engage guests throughout their stay—anticipating needs, sharing Ranchlands’ mission, and providing exceptional hospitality at all times.

  • Lead safe, memorable horseback rides on the ranch and surrounding public land, offering ecological, cultural, and geological interpretation along the way.

  • Create imaginative, educational outdoor experiences and support all guest programming, including workshops, roping lessons, hikes, naturalist walks, bird watching, and fishing.

  • Attend meals with guests, assist with service and dish duties, and represent Ranchlands’ food program by answering questions about ranch-raised ingredients.

  • Care for the horse herd daily—grooming, saddling, monitoring health, wrangling horses on dirtbike, maintaining tack, building and repairing fences, and ensuring safe, well-maintained corrals and pastures.

  • Support overall Camp and ranch operations, including setup, cleaning vehicles and trailers, supply runs, and general maintenance to ensure a seamless guest experience.

Characteristics for success:

  • Maintain a positive attitude at all times.

  • Making safety-conscious and logical decisions in demanding situations.

  • Exceed guest's expectations; go above and beyond to deliver an outstanding hospitality experience.

  • Be proactive, self-starting, and able to work independently and collaboratively and maintain a positive attitude.

  • Problem-solving in the field and at Camp while also using good sense, practical knowledge, and good judgment.

  • Identify safety risks, communicate hazards to other staff and try to avoid potential risks, when possible, for yourself and others.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Lifelong rider or proven advanced experience in different riding disciplines for a shorter period of time. Strong horsemanship skills and ability to safely manage horses and guests in all situations.

  • Service or hospitality experience is strongly preferred but not required.

  • Can-do attitude and excellent, thoughtful problem solver.

  • Ability to recognize when tasks must be done and take initiative to complete them.

  • Friendly and warm personality.

  • The employee must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

  • 6 months of previous physical labor experience.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work long hours including weekends and holidays.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may vary on a weekly basis depending on the needs of the business.

This full-time seasonal position (mid-May–early October) is based at Paintrock Canyon Ranch in northern Wyoming, with shared housing provided. Salary includes a portion of tip pool, averaging about $2,000/month per employee. Ideal candidates are lifelong riders with exceptional horsemanship skills, as well as warm communicators with strong work ethic, physical stamina, and a passion for guest service, outdoor work, and contributing to a mission-centered ranching operation. Please note this is a hospitality role, not a ranch hand role.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Ranchlands is unable to provide or assume sponsorship for an employment visa now or in the future.

Ranchlands’ is an Equal Opportunity Employer, drug free workplace, and complies with ADA regulations as applicable.
