About Rainbow King Lodge Inc

Rainbow King Lodge is a summer fly-out fly fishing lodge located along the beautiful shore of Lake Iliamna. We provide 5-star dining and fishing experiences for about 16 guests per week. The lodge has 3 airplanes on floats that provide transportation to and from fishing locations daily.

Rainbow King has been in operation for over 50 years, with the same general manager for 37 years. We pride ourselves on the best fishing and customer service the industry has to offer.

Our staff of about 20 are provided private rooms, but usually share a bathroom with one other employee of the same gender. We have competitive pay and tips over the summer.

During time off, you have access to the rec room, which includes a pool table, big screen TV, and hot tub. We also have an exercise room available 24 hours a day. Breakfast is made to order, lunch and dinner are a set menu for the crew.

Travel compensation is negotiable depending on experience.

The summer is a busy time for us, but also an amazing experience for the outdoor enthusiast. Throughout the summer, employees have the opportunity to tag along on trips to Brooks Falls and other fishing locations. During the sockeye season, employees have access to one of the world's best fishing locations and take advantage of the experience on most Saturday nights.

We are looking for hardworking, energetic, customer service-oriented employees for the summer of 2026.

The Employee Experience

We work 6 days a week at Rainbow King Lodge. The hours depend on your position at the lodge. We have Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning without guests. This time is generally used to catch up on sleep or recreate.

We do offer tag-along trips for employees when plane loads and schedules allow. We can generally get all of our in-house staff on about two trips per summer.

The staff at Rainbow King becomes more like family than co-workers, and we all often enjoy spending time together. Most staff keep in touch over the winter.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is very customer service-oriented and likely enjoys outdoor activities.

They are easy to get along with and don't have trouble rolling with the punches. We are located in remote Alaska, and there are times that weather, shipping, etc gets in the way of our best laid plans.

It is important that being able to work with those challenges is something you are up for.

Most of our employees love the outdoors. We are in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Photography, bear viewing, fishing, rock hounding, walking, and kayaking are just a couple of the activities offered for employees during the summer months.

Room and Board

All employees are provided room and board at no extra cost to them for the duration of their employment.

Rooms are private with a shared bathroom. The oldest crew rooms are 6 years old and the newest ones are 3 years old. All have vinyle plank flooring, very comfortable beds, and walk in showers.

Breakfast is made to order, lunch and dinner are a set menu for crew. Lunches are often simple, for example chicken strips and fries or sliders. Dinners include a protein, salad bar, one starch, and a vegetable or two.

We can accommodate food allergies.

Employee Perks

  • Tag along fishing trips and sight seeing when plane and guest capacity allow. We can always get the employees out on at least one tag along trip per season.

  • There are fishing opportunities on days off or during the day when no tasks are at hand.

  • The village has about 15 miles of paved road the has trails for hiking and running.

  • There is a gym on site for guests and crew, hot tub, big screen tv, pool table, excellent wifi, and two message chairs available during the day when guests are not on site. Wifi is available all the time.

  • We also try to have a couple of fun activities like dodge ball or softball games during the summer.

  • In the fall there are open gym nights at the local high school.

  • There are two churches in town, a Russian orthodox and baptist church.

  • Iliamna is also home to the Nilavena Clinic, they provide medical care as needed for staff and guests.

  • There are also opportunities to learn about the local culture and subsistance lifestyle from the amazing community that we are part of for the summer.

Getting Here and Getting Around

To get to the lodge, a charter flight is required from Anchorage. At the start of the season, employees often travel on the lodge's float planes. The other option is to take the lodge paid for charter flight with one of the other air taxis that service Iliamna.

Getting around in Iliamna is pretty simple since the village is so small. The lodge has several vehicles that employees are allowed to use with a current driver's license.
