Guide E-Bike Tours in Alaska! Tour Guide & Retail Associate in Historic Skagway

Klondike Electric Bicycles is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and active E-Bike Tour Guide & Retail Associate to spend the season in historic Skagway, Alaska!

In this active, guest-facing position, you are the face of our shop and the storyteller of Skagway. You will lead small-group electric bicycle tours along scenic coastal and mountain routes, share the colorful Gold Rush history of the area, and deliver hands-on safety orientations to independent renters. When not on the road, you will anchor retail and guest check-ins at our shop counter, help fit gear, and keep our fleet staged and ready for adventure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead Guided Tours: Safely lead engaging, informative e-bike excursions for visitors of all riding abilities, pacing groups well and sharing regional history, ecology, and local lore.

• Rider Sizing & Safety Briefings: Deliver clear, confident safety speeches to guided tour groups and rental guests; demonstrate throttle and pedal-assist controls, fit helmets, and adjust seat heights.

• Front-of-House Hospitality: Welcome walk-in travelers, check in advance reservations using our tablet POS system (Square), process retail merchandise sales, and answer visitor questions about Skagway.

• Fleet Staging & Support: Partner with the bike technician and fellow guides to stage bicycles, inspect gear before departures, swap and charge batteries, and assist with smooth return check-ins.

• Community Cross-Coverage: Provide occasional mid-day break relief or team coordination across our local family of storefronts (including Chilkooterie and Stuff & Things).

Housing & Living in Skagway

• Employee Housing Available: Shared seasonal staff housing in downtown Skagway.

• Housing Cost: Approximately $525–$550/month rent plus a flat $75/month utilities/Wi-Fi fee.

• Fully Walkable: No car needed. Housing is within walking and biking distance to the shop, grocery store, recreation center, harbor, and hiking trails.

• The Backyard: World-class hiking right from town (Dewey Lakes, AB Mountain, Chilkoot Trail), scenic road trips up the Klondike Highway into the Yukon, and a vibrant, tight-knit seasonal community.

Qualifications

• Public Speaking & Hospitality: Natural storyteller with an outgoing, upbeat personality who genuinely enjoys engaging with people from around the world.

• Cycling Confidence: Comfortable and skilled riding an electric bicycle on paved roadways and packed gravel surfaces in various Southeast Alaska weather conditions.

• Physical Stamina: Able to ride multiple miles a day, stand on your feet during shop shifts, and lift/maneuver e-bikes weighing 55–65 lbs.

• Safety & Reliability: Punctual and safety-conscious. CPR/First Aid certification is preferred (or willingness to obtain prior to arrival).

• Legal Requirement: Must be authorized to work in the United States with a valid driver’s license preferred.
