Tour Narrator

About Ketchikan Duck Tour & Alaska Hummer Adventures

Want to spend your summer in Southeast Alaska, surrounded by mountains, rainforest, wildlife and the ocean — while getting paid to entertain people from around the world?

Ketchikan Duck Tour & Alaska Hummer Adventures operates some of Ketchikan’s most unique sightseeing experiences. Our Duck Tour takes guests through historic Ketchikan before heading onto the water aboard an authentic amphibious vehicle. It's fun, informative and guaranteed to quack you up! We're a local, family-owned and operated company, and pride ourselves on giving each and every one of our guests the absolute best experience possible. We want to be the best part of their vacation!

We’re looking for outgoing, energetic and adventurous people to join our team for the 2027 season.

As a Tour Narrator, you’re not sitting behind a cash register or simply shuttling passengers from one stop to the next. You are the entertainment! You’ll be entertaining groups of up to 49 guests, teaching them about Ketchikan's history, cracking jokes, interacting with passengers and helping create one of the highlights of their Alaska vacation.

No previous tour-guide experience is required. We’ll teach you the script and the history. We’re looking for personality!

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Outgoing and comfortable talking to strangers

  • Energetic and enthusiastic

  • Comfortable performing in front of a crowd

  • Naturally funny or able to tell a good joke

  • Friendly and personable

  • Dependable and professional

  • Excited about Alaska and the outdoors

  • Able to keep a group entertained for 90 minutes

  • Someone who genuinely enjoys meeting people from all over the world

You don’t need to know everything about Alaska when you arrive. You just need to be willing to learn, have fun and make people laugh.

If you’re the kind of person who would rather spend a summer telling stories on an amphibious tour vehicle than working behind a desk, you might be exactly who we’re looking for.

Room & Board

FREE HOUSING IS PROVIDED FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON.

Employee housing is provided from late April through September, allowing you to spend the season in Ketchikan without having to worry about finding your own place to live.

Ketchikan is a small, walkable community, and you’ll be living in the heart of one of the most unique regions of Alaska.

Housing is free as long as you complete your contract.

Come for the job. Stay for the adventure.

Employee Perks

  • $18–$20/hour + tips

  • Free housing for the entire season

  • Potential to earn $300+ per day in tips during busy four-tour days

  • No previous tour-guide experience required

  • Training provided

  • Work outside and on the water

  • Meet people from all over the world

  • Live in beautiful Southeast Alaska

  • Spend your summer surrounded by mountains, rainforest and ocean

  • Join a fun-loving, outgoing team

  • Opportunities to experience other Alaska adventures during your time off

Tips are split 50/50 between the narrator and captain, and strong tip days can make this a very lucrative seasonal position in addition to your hourly wage.

For Fun

Ketchikan is surrounded by the Tongass National Forest — the largest national forest in the United States — and there’s no shortage of things to do when you’re not working.

Spend your days off:

  • Hiking through temperate rainforest

  • Fishing for salmon, halibut, trout and lots more!

  • Kayaking

  • Exploring waterfalls

  • Watching whales and other wildlife (black bears, otters, deer, mountain goats etc.)

  • Exploring the coastline

  • Camping

  • Exploring the local bars and restaurants

  • Chasing the northern lights when conditions are right

  • Or simply enjoying one of the most beautiful places in the world

The Job

As a Narrator, you’ll lead 90-minute Duck Tours through Ketchikan’s historic neighborhoods and waterfront before taking guests onto the water.

You’ll receive a fully scripted narration, your job is to bring that script to life!

You’ll entertain groups of up to 49 passengers, answer questions, interact with guests and help create a fun, memorable experience.

You’ll also help greet and check in guests before their tours.

Our vehicles are U.S. Coast Guard certified and inspected, and because you’ll be working aboard a commercial passenger vessel, you’ll be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Compensation

$18–$20/hour + tips

Tips are split 50/50 between the narrator and captain.

During a busy four-tour day, it is common for both the narrator and captain to finish the day with $300+ in tips, in addition to their hourly wages.

That means a strong summer can provide the opportunity to make excellent seasonal money while living in Alaska.

Season

Start Date: April 25, 2027
Season: Late April – September
Housing: FREE housing provided for the entire season

Come Spend the Summer in Alaska

You could spend another summer working a normal seasonal job.

Or you could live in Alaska, work on the water, meet people from around the world, make people laugh for a living and spend your days off exploring everything that Ketchikan has to offer.

If you’re outgoing, adventurous and looking for something way more memorable than a normal summer job, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply today and come spend the summer in Ketchikan.
