    Lift Operations
    Jay Peak

    The Lift Operator oversees daily operation of lifts. This position performs daily maintenance checks, records results and reports deficiencies to Lift Maintenance personnel. This position trains and coordinates the duties and responsibilities of lift attendants as well as coordinating with Patrol and other Mountain Operations departments regarding opening and closing of lifts.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)

    • Oversees daily operations of a lift.
    • Performs daily safety checks at the direction of the Lift Operations Manager or Supervisor.
    • Ensures all lifts are closed correctly at the end of each shift.
    • Fills out daily operation logs.
    • Performs snow removal and maintenance of lift ramps.
    • Checks guest lift tickets.

  • Lift Operations Supervisor(Year-Round)

    Lift Operations
    Jay Peak
    $22.00 - $22.00 / hour

    The Lift Operations Supervisor is responsible for daily oversight of all lift operations and personnel.  The position hires new lift personnel, monitors performance, and implements company labor policies. They are also responsible for weekly schedules, ensuring and safety training is completed and recorded by all lift personnel, and daily coordination with the Lift Maintenance staff to identify any concerns. During the summer months, the Lift Operations Supervisor will function as the Lead Tram Operator, which will include the duties and responsibilities below. Prior experience in Lifts is preferred. This is a full-time, year-round, benefited position.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)

    • Ensuring all hiring and separation paperwork is completed and coordinated with Human Resources.
    • Performs daily random and routine inspections at all lift stations and surrounding areas of responsibility, and all lift personnel, including ensuring that lift corrals are set up properly before opening every day and maintained throughout the day, staff are in their uniforms, lift operators and attendants are in place at all times, that IT is informed if ticket gates are not functioning, that excess snow is removed from lift line and loading zones and that low areas are filled, checking that all daily logs are filled in properly, and coordinating with Patrol regarding opening, closing, and all safety matters related to lift operations.
    • Responsible for inventory, distribution, and return of uniforms.
    • Maintains company policies in terms of regular attendance, punctuality, neat appearance and good attitude, interaction with guests, and safety procedures of all personnel, including an active approach to ensuring that every lift has the optimum number of staff at all times throughout the day.
    • Oversees operation of the Tram, acting as Lead Tram Operator during shoulder season or as needed.
    • Performs weekly maintenance of the Tram and participates in major projects related to tram operations.
    • Performs daily checks at the direction of the Lift Operations Manager. Reports any abnormalities immediately to Lift Maintenance Manager.
    • Verifies strength of wind at top of Tram and advises Lift Operations Manager so that he/she may make decisions on whether or not lift should continue to operate throughout the day.
    • Checks assigned machinery locations in readiness for operations.
    • Starts lift machinery, checking for abnormal sounds, oil levels, etc and recording in daily logs.
    • Ensures all lifts are closed down correctly at the end of each shift.
    • Reviews maintenance logs daily for scheduled maintenance, and completes as needed.
    • Works at heights to manipulate switches, and occasional climbing towers in all weather conditions to assist in performing repair work.
    • Other duties as assigned which could be directly related, or unrelated, to original position.

    OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Must have excellent customer service skills. Supervisory experience preferred. Some weekends and holidays needed.

  • Lift Attendant

    Lift Operations
    Jay Peak

    The Lift Attendant is responsible for the daily operation of assigned loading and unloading terminals. Lift Attendants load guests safely onto chair lifts, check tickets and ensure that lifts are loaded safely and stopped in the event of an emergency. Lift Attendants are also responsible for maintaining the building and area surrounding the lifts. This is a part or full time seasonal position with opportunity for overtime. It's a great way to get your foot in the door with mountain ops and enjoy all the perks available to employees here at Jay.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)

    • Assists with daily lift inspection.
    • Prepares assigned load/unload terminals and maintains high standard of housekeeping and snow grooming near the area so that guests may dismount chair with a minimum of danger.
    • Advises and assists dismounting guests, as necessary.
    • Informs lift supervisor of any unusual or improper occurrences with regard to equipment, personnel or guests.
    • Meets company policy in terms of regular attendance, punctuality, neat appearance and good attitude.
    • Makes lift supervisor aware of any unusual weather conditions such as high or gusty wind and/or thunder and lightning.
    • Shovels snow in corral and lift building areas.
    • Assists in inspection of lift, in readiness for guests.
    • Checks tickets and advises persons without tickets where they can purchase them, always displaying a courteous and helpful manner.

  • Snowmaking Shift Lead

    Snowmaking & Grooming

    The Snowmaking Shift Lead is responsible for directing the activities of workers engaged in making snow on the mountain, including the operation, maintenance, and repair of the snowmaking system.  Overall responsibilities include the operation and functioning of high pressure air and water systems used in the production of snow and the proficient understanding of the control system.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)

    • Responsible for the training employees in safe work practices, and interprets company policies to employees and enforces safety regulations.
    • Assist in implementing the resort snowmaking Plan with special attention to the safety of all personnel and maximum shift efficiency.
    • Regularly inspect and conduct necessary maintenance on snowmaking equipment as needed. This includes, but is not limited to: charge and inspect all lines; check all valves and valve boxes for leaks; maintain and repair hydrants; assist with fan gun maintenance; grease and oil tower gun bases; assist with pump house maintenance; and operate and utilize the snowmaking control system to its full capacity.
    • Maintain safe and orderly winter recreation areas by setting up, storing and operating on-hill equipment in a safe manner.
    • Communicate with other mountain operations departments daily regarding mountain operations, snow conditions, special needs, and other relevant information.
    • Assist with hiring, motivating, evaluating, and directing staff to ensure adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established goals and objectives. Ensure that all employees receive the training, support, guidance, feedback and resources necessary.
    • Maintain and enhance a guest focused culture in all areas of responsibility.
    • Assist with snowmaking personnel and paperwork issues, according to resort guidelines for hiring, employee evaluations, disciplinary procedures, and setting of schedules for the snowmaking department.
    • Must be able to operate a snow cat, snow machine and ATV.
    • Performs activities of workers supervised.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor, which could be directly related, or un-related to original position.

  • Snowmaker I

    Snowmaking & Grooming

    $18.00 / hour

    The Snowmaker I will assist with day-to-day operations in the safe production of a suitable snow surface and will work as a member of a team of snowmakers. As a snowmaker, you will learn how to perform snow quality checks, snow gun adjustments, assembly and operation of all types of snow guns, and equipment placement on trails.  In this job you will be working long hours, overnights and exposed to the elements.  This important role is critical to getting the ski season up and running.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)

    • Reads, understand, and applies techniques found in the Jay Peak Snowmaking Operations and Safety Manual.
    • Participates in training to become proficient in safe fire-up, operation, adjustment, and shut-down of all types of snow guns, and high pressure hoses and hydrants associated with them.
    • Receives training and becomes acquainted with the location, safe actuation, and manipulation of pipeline distribution valves in their respective on-mountain valve stations.
    • Receives training in the geography and trail/place names for all snowmaking related locations.
    • Expects to work 12 hour shifts as scheduled by Snowmaking Shift Lead.
    • Receives training on how to be self-reliant for unknown periods of time in harsh winter conditions, on extreme terrain, and perform tasks in these conditions.
    • Receives training from Snowmaking Shift Lead, Snowmaking Supervisor, or Risk Manager in the safe use of ATV’s and Snowmobiles in mountainous conditions.
    • Receives training to become proficient in all aspects of pump house and compressor operations, including how to read, interpret and communicate readings on the control to system to the crew in the field.

    SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to work long hours, outdoors, overnights and exposed to the elements.
    • Flexibility is a must, shifts vary and can be overnight.
    • Previous experience handling heavy machinery and knowledge of tools and equipment required.
    • Experience in snowmaking is a plus.

    The Snowmaker II has all of the responsibilities and qualifications of the Snowmaker I with the distinction that the Snowmaker II is fully trained and has demonstrated proficiency in all of the essential duties and responsibilities that were learned as a Snowmaker I.  The Snowmaker II will be self-reliant and is responsible for his or her own welfare during snowmaking operations.  The Snowmaker II will on occasion be asked by the Shift Lead to assist in training Snowmaker I’s.

    • Is proficient in all aspects of pump house and compressor operations, including overall understanding of how to read, interpret and communicate reading of the control system with the crew in the field as well as how to make adjustments to the equipment in the pump house based on the readings of the control system.

    • Must hold valid State of Vermont Driver’s License and be eligible for enrollment in Jay Peak Resort’s Motor Vehicle Insurance policy.

  • Groomer II

    Snowmaking & Grooming

    $20.50 / hour

    The Groomer II prepares and maintains skiing surfaces that are safe and functional for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels using grooming vehicles. This position must be flexible in your hours and willing to work evenings/overnight as well as weekends and holidays. Operating heavy machinery is a must. Works directly with other groomers and other departments such as Patrol, Lifts, and Snowmaking as a team to accomplish daily goals and operations.  Ability to read instruments and recognize mechanical issues in snow cats. Be able to identify obstacles and hazards in all types of terrain. Ensures compliance with all Risk Management, health and safety protocols.  Assists in training Groomer I operators. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assignment

    • Daily operational inspection, fueling, and cleaning of machinery.
    • Grooming of ski trails in a mountainous environment both during daylight and at night.
    • Communication of work performed, area covered, and reporting of any irregularities for other operators to be aware of.
    • Trains Groomer I operators under the direction of the Shift Lead or the Snowmaking/Grooming Manager
    • Other duties as assigned, which could be directly related, or un-related to original position.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position has minor supervisory responsibilities with respect to Groomer I operators.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Must have 2-5 years of experience operating a snow cat in a mountain environment.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Must hold valid State of Vermont Driver’s License and be eligible for enrollment in Jay Peak Resort’s Motor Vehicle Insurance policy.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

    • 2-5 years’ experience operating a snow cat.
    • Able to work in a guest service environment and appear professional at all times.
    • Self-starter with the ability to work well with others.
    • Follow written and oral instructions, including communicating on the mountain radio
    • Work outside of snow cat in inclement and adverse weather conditions in a mountain environment
