Job Description:
The Imperial River Company is a multifaceted hospitality and recreation business consisting of a hotel, campground, rafting outfitter, restaurant, and group/event operations. The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the business as a whole and ensuring each area operates efficiently, profitably, and to a high standard.
The General Manager’s primary responsibilities include managing the company’s financial and operational performance, overseeing, hiring, and developing employees, managing budgets and expenses, maintaining vendor relationships, working with larger group and event bookings, and identifying opportunities to improve the business. The General Manager serves as the primary leader of the property and is expected to take ownership of its overall performance, address issues as they arise, and work closely with ownership on the continued growth and success of Imperial River Company.
We are looking for a hands-on, entrepreneurial General Manager who is comfortable operating with significant autonomy. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable reviewing financial performance, coaching a department manager, handling a difficult guest situation, and stepping into operations when necessary.
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of management experience in hospitality or a related industry.
• Experience overseeing multiple departments and/or 20+ employees.
• Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business, management, or a related field preferred, but not required.
• Strong leadership skills with experience hiring, training, developing, and holding employees accountable.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills with the ability to operate independently. Excellent written and verbal communication required.
• Ability to manage conflict, delegate responsibilities, take accountability, and take pride in your work.
• Experience managing guest relations and resolving escalated customer-service issues.
• Proficiency with common business software, including Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and hospitality or reservation-management systems.
• Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business needs require, particularly during peak season.
• Willingness to obtain, or already having, a food safety permit and OLCC permit.
Responsibilities:
• Regularly review revenue, expenses, labor costs, departmental profitability, and overall financial performance, and make operational adjustments as necessary to meet or exceed budgeted performance. Complete annual budget planning and reviews with owners.
• Directly overseeing the hiring, onboarding, training, retention, and off-boarding of all employees. Offer coaching when the opportunity arises and perform disciplinary actions when necessary.
• Learning and, in some instances, filling in for various roles on-site including front desk, housekeeping, restaurant, and operations.
• Establishing and enforcing various SOPs and employee expectations, communicating these standards with each respective department.
• Regularly communicating across departments to ensure the optimal guest experience, employee experience, and property upkeep is being maintained.
• Directly overseeing all large events and event coordination including weddings, corporate retreats, lodge buyouts, large family retreats, etc.
• Creating weekly schedules for each department.
• Review and oversee the Administrative Assistant’s work to ensure accurate payroll processing, bookkeeping, social media management, supply ordering, timely payment of invoices, and completion of other assigned administrative duties.
• Ensure a consistently high level of guest satisfaction and maintain standards for hotel room and RV site cleanliness. Work with the Operations Manager to ensure established operating and guest-service standards are maintained across all rafting trips.
• Work directly with the restaurant staff to ensure consistent food quality, food cost management, waste management, cleanliness, and food safety standards. Work directly with the restaurant manager on food, liquor, and supply orders as well as weekly performance reviews and opportunities to improve restaurant operations.
• Ensure all elements of the property are adequately maintained and create an annual Capital Improvements plan for projects to be completed each winter.
• Manage pricing and revenue strategy for hotel rooms, RV sites, rafting trips, restaurant operations, group bookings, and events based on occupancy, demand, seasonality, and competitive conditions.
• Manage key vendor and contractor relationships, including negotiating pricing, reviewing service quality, and identifying alternative vendors when appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with applicable licenses, permits, inspections, safety requirements, and company policies across lodging, food and beverage, rafting, and general property operations.
• Oversee inventory and purchasing controls to minimize waste, prevent unnecessary spending, and ensure departments have the supplies needed to operate.
• Respond to and resolve significant guest complaints, employee issues, emergencies, and operational problems that require management-level involvement.
• Monitor online reviews and guest feedback and implement improvements when recurring problems or opportunities are identified.
• Develop seasonal operating plans, including staffing levels, opening/closing procedures, winter projects, and preparation for peak-season operations.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to increase revenue and improve profitability, including packages, events, group business, operational efficiencies, and cross-selling between departments.
• Assist with front desk coverage and other operational roles as needed during the slower winter season.
• Respond to after-hours phone calls and messages, when applicable.
• Perform other management and operational duties reasonably necessary for the successful operation of Imperial River Company.
