Room and Board
Glacier Restaurant Group does not provide employee housing, dorms, cabins, apartments, or any form of room and board.
Whitefish is a stunning mountain town near Glacier National Park, with a vibrant community—but it's also a popular resort area where housing can be competitive, especially during peak seasons.
We recommend starting your search for housing early, as availability tightens during tourist seasons. Networking with current employees or checking job-specific postings can also uncover roommate or shared housing leads.
Here are some practical resources and tips for securing housing in the Whitefish/Flathead Valley area:
Housing Whitefish (housingwhitefish.org) is a local nonprofit dedicated to affordable housing solutions. They offer the Whitefish Workforce Assistance Program, which provides rental assistance to full-time and seasonal-equivalent employees to help people live and work successfully in the area. Many restaurant and hospitality workers qualify—check their site or contact them directly for eligibility and applications.
Short-term, furnished, or flexible rentals are common for seasonal or relocating workers. Look into platforms like:
Stay Montana (staymontana.com) for long-term monthly rentals in Whitefish and nearby towns.
Lakeshore Rentals (lakeshorerentals.us) for furnished short- and long-term options.
Local listings on Zillow, Apartments.com, RentCafe, or Facebook groups (e.g., search for "Whitefish Montana rentals" or seasonal housing groups).
Nearby towns like Kalispell or Columbia Falls often have more affordable or available options, with commuting distances of 15–30 minutes to Whitefish.

Getting Here and Getting Around
Glacier Restaurant Group does not provide transportation to or from work sites, nor do we arrange initial arrival transportation. Employees are responsible for arranging and covering their own transportation to and from shifts.
We strongly recommend bringing a personal vehicle if possible. Whitefish and the surrounding Flathead Valley area have limited public transportation options, especially outside of seasonal or specific routes. A car provides the most reliable way to get to work, particularly for early morning, late night, or variable restaurant shifts. Many team members commute from nearby towns like Kalispell (about 15–20 minutes drive), Columbia Falls (20–30 minutes), or within Whitefish itself.
Getting to Whitefish Initially -
The closest major airport is Glacier Park International Airport (FCA) in Kalispell, about a 15–20 minute drive south of Whitefish. Options for arrival include:
Private shuttles or airport transfer services (e.g., Whitefish Shuttle, Mountain Shuttle, or others—search for "Whitefish airport shuttle" or check sites like whitefishshuttle.com or mountainshuttlemt.com for current rates and schedules).
Taxis, rideshares (Uber/Lyft available but may have variable availability/wait times), or local cab services.
Rental cars at the airport (highly recommended for flexibility during your stay).
Amtrak stops daily at the historic Whitefish Depot (downtown)—a scenic option from cities like Seattle, Chicago, or Minneapolis.
Once in the Area: Getting Around -
Public transportation in Whitefish is limited:
The Mountain Climber offers a weekday fixed-route bus connecting Whitefish, Kalispell, and Columbia Falls (primarily for seniors but open to all—check cityofwhitefish.gov for details).
The S.N.O.W Bus (Shuttle Network of Whitefish) provides free rides between Whitefish Mountain Resort and downtown Whitefish during the Summer and Winter operating season. Check out their website for more information S.N.O.W. Bus - Whitefish Mountain Resort
No comprehensive city-wide public transit system exists like in larger cities.
Biking is encouraged and popular for shorter commutes within Whitefish! The town is compact, bike-friendly, with trails, paths, and pedestrian routes for commuting and recreation. Many locals bike to work, especially if housing is downtown or nearby. Whitefish has dedicated bike lanes and trails—perfect for low-cost transport in good weather.
Housing distances vary: Some employees live within walking or biking distance to downtown locations (very convenient!), while others commute 10–30 minutes by car from surrounding areas for more affordable options.
Overall, having your own reliable transportation (car or bike for short distances) makes life much easier in this scenic but spread-out mountain community. If you're relocating, plan ahead.
For Fun
Whitefish, Montana, is the ultimate Great Place for adventure seekers, nature lovers, and anyone who wants to live where the mountains meet the magic. Nestled in the Flathead Valley just minutes from the southern edge of Glacier National Park, our hometown offers year-round outdoor thrills, a vibrant downtown scene, and a welcoming community vibe that's perfect for seasonal or long-term team members looking to make the most of their time off.
Summer Adventures (June–September)

Hiking & Biking — Hundreds of miles of trails right out your door, from easy lakeside paths to challenging ascents in the surrounding national forest or Glacier National Park
Whitefish Lake — Swim, paddleboard, kayak, wakeboard, wakesurf, or charter a boat for fishing—it's right in town and perfect for cooling off after a shift.
Whitefish Mountain Resort — Ride the scenic chairlift or gondola for panoramic views, then zip line, tackle the alpine slide, ropes course, or mountain bike down world-class trails.
Whitewater Rafting & Floating — Hit the rivers for thrilling rapids or relaxed floats with stunning Glacier Park scenery.
Golf, Horseback Riding & More — Tee off at scenic courses, ride horses through meadows, or try fly fishing.
Downtown Whitefish buzzes with live music, art galleries (like Stumptown Art Studio), craft breweries and distilleries (Spotted Bear Spirits is a local favorite), cozy coffee shops, and festivals like Under the Big Sky (big-name concerts at Big Mountain Ranch) or summer rodeo series.
Winter Wonders (December–March)
Snow transforms the area into a playground:
Skiing & Snowboarding at Whitefish Mountain Resort — Epic powder and night skiing.
Cross-Country Skiing, Snowshoeing & Snowmobiling — Groomed trails at nearby Glacier Nordic Center or backcountry adventures.
Whitefish Winter Carnival (February) — A wild community festival with parades, polar plunges, themed parties, royal court antics, and yeti sightings—pure Montana fun!
Other snowy fun: Ice skating or just cozying up by a fire after exploring.
Year-Round Vibes
Cultural & Relaxed Scenes — Catch live theater at Whitefish Theatre Company, visit the Hockaday Museum of Art, or enjoy the historic Whitefish Depot. Star gaze under dark Montana skies, photograph wildlife, or simply stroll downtown's funky shops, bars, and restaurants.
Proximity to Glacier National Park — A quick drive opens up 700+ miles of trails, scenic drives, boating, and epic photography.
Whitefish feels like a perfect mix of small-town charm and big-adventure access—energetic yet laid-back, with friendly locals who love sharing the outdoors. Whether you're hiking at sunrise, catching a concert under the stars, or unwinding after a busy shift, there's always something exciting to do. Seasonal workers will find that the real perk of working here is the lifestyle—living where others vacation!
