Glacier Guides and Montana Raft is an eco-conscious company based in West Glacier, Montana, offering whitewater rafting, scenic floating, hiking, biking, backpacking, fishing, equipment sales and rentals, and lodging, in and around Glacier National Park. The Employee Experience

Apply to work in Glacier National Park for us as a guide or in a support staff position. Greet guests and give out expert Glacier National Park information as a valued member of our Office team. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, outdoor loving person who is a self starter and ready to jump in wherever needed or lend a helping hand. Multi-tasking is important in all positions. Great attitudes go a long way. 

Room and Board

We provide sites at our campground located at our HQ in West Glacier. Employee bathrooms are available as well as an A-Frame building for cooking food.

Glacier National Park hosts several educational series throughout the summer and opportunities to involve oneself in the outdoors. Equipment available for rent to do a multitude of activities like biking Going-to-the-Sun Road, rafting on The Flathead River or renting a tent for a Glacier National Park backpacking trip. Our office is 40 minutes from Whitefish Montana, 20 minutes from Columbia Falls, Montana and 45 minutes from Kalispell, Montana, all offering great restaurants and activities to do on days off. Our office is in the middle of an outdoor lovers paradise.

    Raft Department

    Raft Guide

    West Glacier

    RAFT GUIDE POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Need to be available from late May through Mid August. 

    1. You must be in good physical condition with the ability:

    • to lift 50 lbs on average, and up to 150 lbs occasionally often in awkward positions.

    • work in variable types of weather (sometimes extreme).

    • to walk on rocky, uneven terrain.

    • to maintain a professional level of communication with guests and co-employees at all times especially during stressful situations.

    1. Completion of Glacier Guides River School or management approved equivalent. This includes but is not limited to basic knowledge of guiding, rigging, knots, river safety, swimming, and rescue.

    2. Certification in Wilderness First Aid, hands on CPR and Swift Water Rescue. There are opportunities to take these classes for a fee in the spring.

    3. Knowledge of river features, Glacier National Park and Flathead Forest Service policies, the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex, Wild and Scenic Rivers, and Flora and fauna of the area.

    4. Have a personable easy going attitude with attention to safety.

    5. Must love working with people in the outdoor environment and have a polite and professional demeanor.

    6. Must have a cell phone and be able to communicate with it on a daily basis.

    7. Per Glacier Guides and Montana Raft Vehicle Insurance standards: must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to be added to GGMR’s vehicle insurance policy.

    8. Subject to GGMR’s Alcohol and Controlled Substance Abuse Policy based on the nature of the position and related duties.

    9. Expected to be neat and clean, wear a minimum of one item of GGMR apparel when guiding.

    10. Non-smoking and non-vaping environment

    11. Job requires working weekends, holidays and extended hours during peak demand times.

    12. Other aspects of the job include vehicle shuttles, cleaning and maintaining equipment (especially at the end of the season), brochure distribution, food preparation, and social media.

    Preferable: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) (or equivalent) certification, and a valid commercial driver's license. Guide duties include (but are not limited to): Pre-trip: Review of weather and river conditions; vehicle inspection; packing all food and equipment; loading boats; pre trip plan. On Trip: Meeting guests; providing guest orientation; safety talk and route explanation; following USFS and Park Service policies; overseeing general well being of guests; keeping equipment clean; following Leave No Trace protocols; providing first aid when needed. Post trip: Clean vehicles and equipment; make sure guests equipment is clean / dry / in working order; communicate with office and manager about trip; completion of trip evaluations.

    Assistant River Manager

    $22.00 - $27.00 / hour

    Raft Department Assistant Manager (Seasonal)

    Join our team just outside Glacier National Park and help run daily rafting operations in one of the most iconic places in the country.

    This is a hands-on leadership role—you’ll be outside every day supporting guides, managing logistics, and keeping trips running smoothly, safely, and on time.


    What You’ll Do

    • Run and support daily river operations

    • Lead and support river guides throughout the day

    • Adjust staffing and trips in real time as guest numbers change

    • Help grow trips and maximize guest capacity

    • Manage key zones (boat house, bus lane, guest flow)

    • Step in to guide, drive, or solve problems as needed


    What We’re Looking For

    • Strong leader who stays calm and solutions-focused

    • Experience in rafting or outdoor operations preferred

    • Flexible, organized, and comfortable making real-time decisions

    • Team-first mindset—willing to jump in wherever needed


    The Job

    • Season: May – September

    • Schedule: 32–40 hrs/week (more during peak)

    • Pay:

      • $27/hr with CDL | $22/hr without

      • guide pay (wage grade depends on raft guide experience)

    Support Staff

    CDL Bus Driver

    $27.00 / hour
    West Glacier

    Bus Driver with CDL and air brakes: June through August

    Schedule: 4-5 days per week. 9:30 until 4-6 (depending on trip schedule).

    Required: Clean driving record, must pass physical and drug/alcohol test, backing up and driving with trailers. Commercial Driving License (CDL) with air brake endorsement required. Must have a friendly, fun and flexible attitude. 

    Responsibilities: Daily inspections and keeping vehicles logs up to date. Fueling vehicles. Driving vans, mini busses, or large passenger bus with a trailer of rafts to and from river put ins. Daily cleaning of vans/busses (interior, exterior, and windows). Works with vehicle manager, mechanic, and rafting manager to operate safe, timely shuttles.
