Love fixing things, building things, and being the person everyone counts on? Spend your summer keeping a lakeside summer camp in northern Michigan running smoothly. Your commute is a boat ride, your workshop is the whole camp, and every day brings a new project. You’ll work alongside our camp director and a tight-knit team, tackling everything from repairs and upgrades to keeping the kitchen, cabins, and waterfront ready for hundreds of kids having the best summer of their lives.

What: The Position
You’ll own the upkeep of camp, from planning projects to daily operations:

  • Lead repair and maintenance projects, working with the camp director on scope, timeline, and budget

  • Build a preventive maintenance program to keep camp safe and in good shape

  • Create a camp-wide maintenance log covering planned, current, and completed projects for every building and system, so next summer starts strong

  • Run the tool room: keep it organized, keep equipment working, and set up a tool check-out system for staff and campers

  • Work through the daily maintenance checklist and flag major issues to the director

  • Drive the boat to move supplies, garbage, and passengers (depending on skill level)

  • Keep camp running: haul trash to the dumpster by boat, unload food deliveries, monitor and swap the kitchen’s LP gas tanks, and help in the kitchen when needed

Who: The Right Person

  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record (required)

  • Hands-on experience with repairs, carpentry, plumbing, or general maintenance

  • Boat experience is a big plus, and we’ll train the right person

  • Organized, self-directed, and comfortable managing your own projects

  • A team player who doesn’t mind getting dirty and likes being around kids

Where: Camp Lookout, Northern Michigan, on Lake Michigan’s beaches, dunes, and forests.

When: Spring, 2027. We're flexible on start and end dates. Reach out, let's chat.

Why: The Team and Perks
This camp is part of Project Foxwood, a family of four northern Michigan summer programs with one team and one way of caring for kids. You won’t be working in a back room. You’re part of the community that makes camp happen, and your projects will last for summers to come.

  • Pay: $8-9k depending on experience and duration of contract

  • Room and board: Housing Included

  • Days off: Use of camp, equipment, etc.
