About Camp IHC

Camp IHC is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania. A spectacular, natural setting provides the stage for the adventure of a lifetime.  As a counselor, you will have an opportunity to work with children from ages 7-16.

Today, more than ever, children need a safe place to stretch their wings so they can experience the best that life has to offer. This is a place where learning and social development take place in a nurturing environment under the watchful eyes of caring adults.

A place that removes the distraction of technology, cell phones, and the internet for seven weeks. The IHC community is one where children and adults respect each other and the environment in which we live.

The Employee Experience

Employees at Camp IHC are integrated into the daily lives of our campers.  During our time at IHC, which will fly by, we eat, sleep and teach in a residential setting.  Through the immersion into the life of a counselor at IHC, one helps guide our campers in social interaction and develop new skills and refining old ones.

While working at camp you will meet staff from around the world who share similar interests to you and those who differ but share one main goal.  They want to create a place where campers and staff leave stronger than they came.  It is not an easy job, but at Indian Head, we believe that through the challenges come great growth and learning.  If you want a challenge and love working with kids, sign up with us today.

Ideal Candidate

Ideal candidates are open to learning, excited to make new connections, and willing to learn from others.  They look forward to a day with challenges and adventure.  They want to make a difference in children's lives.

Room and Board

Housing is Bunk style living with the campers. The average is 12 Campers and 3 Staff to a bunk.

Employee Perks

While at camp food and housing are included.  A staff lounge has computers and free wifi to keep you connected, not to mention locally roasted coffee from Moka (check it out). On days off, those who wish can take the complimentary bus shuttle to the day-off location or have access to the many activities IHC has to offer.

    Basketball Coach

    $2,500.00 - $4,500.00 / season
    Camp IHC

Basketball is everywhere at Camp IHC.  Everyday you can hear the thump of the ball or the squeak of sneakers on courts.  Whether it’s a pick-up game on the bunkline, a scheduled game on one of our many courts, or the solitary dedicated baller shooting hoops--there is always a ball in play.

At Camp IHC basketball coaches will teach around five to six periods a day. You’ll run classes with campers from 6-16 years old with a variety of abilities. There will also be opportunities to coach specialized classes to more advanced basketball players. You’ll referee competitive games, coach IHC teams against other camps in tournaments and help campers gain a better understanding of the sport.

Basketball is one of the “classics” at camp. Our Camp Director Joel Rutkowski even started his IHC journey as a basketball coach back in the 90s!

Being a basketball coach is an incredibly rewarding job, but it’s not an easy job. You’ll have groups of campers with different abilities in the same class or campers who just aren’t into it that day, so at times it will challenge you. But you will love it and you will get to see your hard work pay off when you see your campers hit game winning shots, or learn a crossover for the first time.

At the end of the summer your coaching and leadership skills will become more defined and polished.

At Camp IHC you’ll be a role model both on and off the court to our campers. They will look up to you in so many ways and as cliche as it sounds, they will 100% have an impact on you too.

Camp IHC is located in northeastern PA.  We are a residential camp that hosts a 8 week experience for campers aging from 7 -16 years of age.

At Camp IHC you will be:

… a part of a high energy and highly spirited staff where the individual is the priority.

…able to unplug from the TV, IPOD and other noises of society for a while and have fun in the outdoors, where people and nature are your influences.

…in an accepting environment leading to a lifetime of memories.

… a member of a large family, where counselors value their relationships with their campers and co-workers.

    Camp IHC

Flag football is a camp favorite!  Whether playing on our outdoor field or on one of our 4 indoor fields, the campers come alive when the ball is snapped.

On a typical day, flag football coaches will teach five to six periods. You’ll run classes with campers from 6-16 years old with a variety of abilities. There will also be opportunities to coach specialized classes to more advanced football players. Coach one-on-one sessions. You’ll also referee games, coach IHC teams in camp tournaments and help campers increase their understanding of the game.

Why Teach Flag Football at Camp?

Being a flag football coach at summer camp is an incredibly rewarding job, but it’s not an easy job. You’ll have groups of campers with different abilities in the same class or campers who just aren’t into it that day, so at times it will challenge you. But you will love it and you will see your hard work pay off when you see your campers complete a pass or score a touchdown.

A summer spent coaching flag football at Camp IHC will not only improve your leadership and coaching skills, but it will also leave you with an excellent experience to apply towards a career in coaching.

    General Counselor

    $2,500.00 / season
    Camp IHC

What is a summer camp counselor?

A camp counselor is the most common role at summer camp. Almost half the staff at Camp IHC fill this incredible position. The role of a camp counselor is to be a big sibling/role model for the campers. You will live in a cabin with 8-16 campers and 3-6 other camp counselors or activity specialists.

As a camp Counselor you get to take part in all the fun camp activities with your campers. You will get your campers ready for the day and excited for absolutely everything.  You get to care for them, help them grow, and just have an off the scale level of fun with them all summer long.

By the end of the summer you will have built the most incredible bonds with each camper and your fellow staff who will become friends for life.

It really is the hardest job you’ll ever love.

What is a typical day like?

On a typical day, you will help the campers get ready in the morning for the day ahead. You will eat breakfast in the dining room before going to flagpole for announcements and raising of the flag! After flagpole there are three activity periods scheduled each morning. You will take your campers to their different activity areas such as the ropes course, arts & crafts, soccer etc. Then off to lunch.  After lunch you’ll have a rest hour before the afternoon activities start.

In the afternoon there are another 2-3 activity periods, one of which is always a general swim, where you get to spend time at the pool jumping all or bouncing on the inflatables in the lake.

After dinner there is always an evening activity planned.  It could be an all camp campfire, a lip-sync battle, color chase, late night tubing, a night hike, you name it!

At the end of the day you will help get the campers ready for bed. Once all is quiet, you may check out for some much needed down time.

    Mountain Bike Activity Specialist

    $2,500.00 / season
    Camp IHC

"Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt."

Mountain Biking at Camp IHC is an important part of our Outdoor Adventure Program. Campers, more typically older campers, will have opportunities through-out the summer to grab life by the handles and head onto our trails to learn and improve their mountain biking skills.

Why Teach Mountain Biking at Camp?

The Camp IHC property is 400+ acres of adventure. We have over 8 miles of trails that encompass all levels of difficulty, to our basic runs in our play park to our more advanced trails over rocks and through the woods.

Our Mountain Biking program typically brings 2 or 3 MTB specialists to Camp IHC during the summer. You’ll work together to build a series of lesson plans and then put them into action over the summer.

Teaching a group of campers will challenge you, you’ll learn how to keep campers engaged, encourage participation and help them learn new skills that can easily lead to new passions.

The mountain biking team falls under our wider Outdoor Adventure program so you’ll have a larger team and plenty of other opportunities that come with the job!
