Coordinator Intern
YOUNG ARTISTS VOCAL PROGRAM COORDINATOR INTERNSHIP
The Young Artists Vocal Program (YAVP) is a six-week program for high school students with a curriculum that is modeled after that of an undergraduate voice degree program. The YAVP Coordinator Intern supports the initiatives set forth by the YAVP Director and Manager and assists with administration and management of YAVP.
The successful candidate for the YAVP Coordinator Internship is a current music student, has an interest in classical music and/or arts administration, or wants to gain knowledge and experience in a summer music training program/festival environment. Preference is given to current Boston University students and/or recent alumni of the BUTI YAVP.

Head Resident Assistant
Head Resident Assistants (HRA) are responsible for the same areas as the Resident Assistants (RA), including serving to improve the educational and social life of students, leading a healthy residence community, acting as resources for the students, providing social opportunities for the community, enforcing institute policies, and assisting student needs. They communicate compassion and openness and are perceptive listeners in an effort to affect positive change and growth. In addition to the regular duties of an RA's, Head Resident Assistants must also be a strong resource for the team of Resident Assistants. HRAs will also have regular shifts at the Student Life Office front desk, integrating their knowledge to help Student Life management better support students and staff alike. HRAs will also take part in the Manager on-call rotation, while having fewer shifts as an RA on-call. As a Manager On-call, HRAs will be responsible for managing crises and emergencies.

The nature of these positions calls for individuals who are willing to work flexible hours. Unless on scheduled time off, Head Resident Assistants are expected to be available each day and are required to be present with their residents during the hours students are curfewed (10:30 p.m. - 7 a.m. Sunday-Thursday, 11:30 p.m. - 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday).

Students are housed in five dormitory-style residences including a turn-of-the-century mansion on a sixty-four acre campus within walking distance of Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Lenox, Massachusetts (130 miles west of Boston). PUBLICATIONS COORDINATOR

Responsibilities
The Publications Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of creating all concert programs throughout the summer season as well as designated print collateral. This position works closely with administrators, program managers, and conductors to create accurate programs and high-quality program notes. Program notes may be drawn from a variety of sources (respecting copyright law), and may also be researched and written. Strong writing, research, and proofreading skills are required for this position. Training with InDesign will be provided, if necessary. This position uses a series of templates to create programs and does not need previous graphic design experience. Self-direction and deadline management are crucial.
This position also supports the day-to-day needs of the BUTI administrative staff.

They are responsible for leading a healthy residence community, acting as resources for the students, providing social opportunities for the community, performing administrative tasks, enforcing institute policies, and assisting student needs. Resident Assistants are expected to know and work with all students in their area of responsibility and to be available and accessible to provide support and assistance on a variety of issues. They communicate compassion and openness and are perceptive listeners in an effort to affect positive change and growth. The nature of these positions calls for individuals who are willing to work flexible hours. Unless on scheduled time off, Resident Assistants are expected to be available each day and are required to be present with their residents during the hours students are curfewed (10:30 p.m. - 7 a.m. Sunday-Thursday, 11:30 p.m. - 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday).

Students are housed in five dormitory-style residences including a turn-of-the-century mansion on a sixty-four-acre campus within walking distance of Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Lenox, Massachusetts (130 miles west of Boston). The residences house up to 260 students and approximately 30 staff members. Other facilities include classrooms, practice sheds, a dining hall, recreational facilities, and a performance theater.
Scheduling & Academic Services Coordinator
SCHEDULING AND ACADEMIC SERVICES COORDINATOR
The preferred candidate for this position is able to multitask and balance competing priorities with minimal supervision. They are exceptionally detail-oriented and organized, have strong written and verbal communication skills, and are able to interface with students, faculty, and staff at all levels, and exudes professionalism in all interactions and correspondence. This position works closely with the BUTI Manager of Education and Programming on a variety of production initiatives, and provides administrative support to the Executive Director.

Must be in good physical condition and able to walk several miles per night. Appearance must be professional, neat, and adhere to uniform requirements. The preferred candidate for this position must be comfortable driving a 16-foot box truck, have the ability to work with minimal supervision, and be able to lift and move heavy and large equipment and musical instruments. Having a music background is helpful but not required. Individuals who are flexible and possess a sense of humor are appreciated. These positions work days, evenings, and weekends as scheduled by the Stage Crew Manager. This position reports to the BUTI Stage Crew Manager and indirectly works with Senior Leadership of the program.

Stage Crew Manager
STAGE CREW MANAGER
The Stage Crew Manager is responsible for overseeing all crew needs for Boston University Tanglewood Institute for both instruction and performance. This position reports to the Director of Education and Programming and works closely with BUTI administration and production staff on planning and executing all program equipment, instrument, and space needs. This position manages a stage crew of four individuals and oversees all assignments and scheduling, safety, and proper handling of instruments and equipment. Proficiency driving a 16-foot truck and operating a lift gate is essential.
The successful candidate has experience working in a concert stage environment, managing a team, and understands the unique needs and requirements of an instruction and performance-based festival environment. They have an understanding of large ensemble (orchestra/wind ensemble/chorus) stage setup, are able to work with a variety of personalities and backgrounds, and is a self-guided problem-solver. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Candidates should always be reachable and responsive as last-minute needs arise. This position works an irregular schedule that includes days, evenings, and weekends.

Transportation Manager
This Transportation Manager position supports on and off-campus operations, reporting directly to the Business and Operations Manager. The Transportation Manager is responsible for facilitating all transportation needs of BUTI. The TM will schedule buses and small vehicle travel and must:

Student Life Team Support
As a member of the Management Staff, the TM will provide support to sessions for student life staff training, attend staff meetings with academic and student life staff, and assist with the opening and closing processes for the summer season. The TM must help develop a positive environment in the office. The nature of this position requires a willingness to work flexible hours.
Additional responsibilities: Other projects may be assigned as dictated by the needs of the program and campus operations. A pro-active attitude, attention to detail, and willingness to take initiative are necessary. The TM is expected to maintain and communicate transparent office hours. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license.
Qualifications
Completion of an undergraduate degree preferred. Professional communications skills are necessary. Ability to assimilate and organize a broad range of information. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications is extremely helpful. Must hold a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Young Artists Orchestra Manager
YOUNG ARTISTS ORCHESTRA MANAGER
The Young Artists Orchestra (YAO) Manager is responsible for executing program operations for YAO. They work closely and frequently with BUTI staff, faculty, and conductors to coordinate all of the administrative and personnel needs for the orchestra program. The successful candidate is self-managing, a strong leader, and capable of working with a variety of individuals and personalities. Previous ensemble management and/or production experience is essential. Night, weekend, and pre-season work is required; this is not a typical “nine to five” job.
Conductor-Related Responsibilities
The Orchestra Manager is responsible for organizing and implementing all rehearsal/sectional/schedule requests by the conductor, providing administrative support to the conductor, organizing rehearsal/performance setup, determining and disseminating conductor expectations to faculty, and being present before and during each orchestra rehearsal.
Faculty/Staff-Related Responsibilities
Provide necessary administrative and scheduling support to the YAO faculty, organize and direct faculty orientation meeting, serve as liaison between faculty and conductor, supervise Orchestra Librarian/Assistant Manager in conjunction with BUTI administration, facilitate and lead weekly YAO meetings, and inform faculty of changes to schedule.
General Administrative/Student-Related Responsibilities
Maintain YAO rosters for all activities, calculate final grades, generate YAO schedule in coordination with BUTI administration, work with and act as liaison to Student Life to enforce all rules and regulations, attend weekly production meetings, organize and maintain YAO bulletin board including daily schedule changes, work with Orchestra Librarian/Assistant Manager to disseminate music, administer faculty evaluations, plan and direct YAO student meetings, determine YAO schedule in coordination with Program Director (large ensemble rehearsals, chamber music program, outside student events, and master classes), work with Stage Crew Manager and Transportation Manager to fulfill YAO needs, take attendance, ensure safety of YAO students, work with Private Lessons Coordinator to fulfill lesson needs.
