Blacktail Mountain opened for operations in 1998, making it the youngest ski area permitted on public lands in the US. We were born out of the idea that mountain experiences should be accessible to all members of our community. 

A "hometown hill" Blacktails crew is a tight-knit community of its own. Every department supports the rest, and we have a whole lot of fun making the lifts spin and the guests smile!

The crew at Blacktail is relatively small for ski area operations. This means that each department supports one another; we are truly a team. Every Saturday morning in the normal operating schedule, we have breakfast together in the bar before kicking off the busiest day of the week. Our Senior team cooks, so no staff need to come in early to provide this meal. This is one of the many small things we do to support connection within our team. We hope the work experience at Blacktail feels like family. 

The ideal candidate for any department at Blacktail loves winter recreation. This doesn't mean you have to be a skier or snowboarder (we can help with that too; all employees at Blacktail have access to free lessons). It means that you enjoy being outside and around folks who love to recreate in the mountains of Montana. Teamwork makes the dreamwork here; you can be a lone wolf, but expect us to challenge that impulse and make every effort to bring you into the pack. 

Blacktail does not offer housing, we do have great local relationships and can help point you to seasonal rooms or rentals. 

• All employees receive a season pass at Blacktail, and their dependents are eligible for a $25 season pass. A dependent is defined as a partner you share bills with and children under 25 who live in your home.

• Blacktail is a member of the Montana Ski Areas Association, which means that full time employees receive 3 lift tickets to every ski area in Montana (except Big Sky, where you will receive 2). Part-time employees receive 2 lift tickets to each Montana Ski Area. MONTANA HAS 15 UNIQUE AND INCREDIBLE SKI AREAS!

The Flathead Valley is vast, and a personal vehicle is recommended. An employee shuttle from Lakeside is provided daily, and carpooling is easy to configure, but you will want a vehicle for your off days and to get yourself to the shuttle stop.

Montana is an incredible state. Some of the great things to do here in the winter months are ice skating at Woodland Park, snowshoeing in Glacier Park, cross-country skiing on one of many trail options, checking out the local brewery scene, or visiting a rustic hot springs on your off days. We're pretty lucky to live here and try hard not to take it for granted.
