At Big Sky Resort, we strive to create exceptional experiences for our guests. Big Sky is a small town located in Southwest Montana with a permanent population of about 3,000 people. Big Sky is about half way between West Yellowstone and Bozeman. Bozeman, a mid-size college town, which has major shopping centers, great downtown area and a Wal-Mart (very important!) is approximately 50 miles from Big Sky Resort.

About Big Sky Resort

Surrounded by millions of acres of National Forest, National Park, and Wilderness lands, Big Sky is the perfect basecamp for a summer escape in the mountains. Whether you are in search of adventure and exhilaration, wellness and relaxation, guided hikes or golf, Big Sky’s summer offerings run the gamut. Big Sky offers lodging, activities, and the creature comforts of home, making it a destination of its own before or after a visit to Yellowstone National Park. Big Sky Resort is located in the Northern Rockies of southwest Montana between Bozeman, Montana and Yellowstone National Park. Read more about our summer experience.

Miles of Hiking & Mountain Biking Terrain

Big Sky Resort offers several miles of hiking and biking trails available right out of Mountain Village, with connections into the backcountry and beyond. Enjoy chairlift-serviced downhill mountain biking for all levels and abilities, with connector trails that allow bikers to ride six miles of flow trail through forests and meadows to Big Sky Town Center. This summer, bike carrier capacity will increase on Ramcharger 8 by 33 percent, as well as a 50 percent increase in bike capacity on Explorer. Both Ramcharger 8 and Explorer chairlifts run daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m for biking and scenic rides.

Montana’s Highest Scenic Overlook – No Hike Required

Escape the heat at Montana’s highest scenic overlook on the Lone Peak Expedition. Ride to 11,166 feet - no hike required - to the summit of Lone Mountain for views of three states, two national parks and mountain ranges for miles. Be on the lookout for some Big Sky locals: a herd of mountain goats often spotted sunning themselves on Lone Peak’s rocky cliffs.

Big Sky Golf Course

The Big Sky Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 course at 6,300 feet above sea level, offering spectacular views of Lone Peak. The golf course, which winds along the wildlife-rich banks of the West Fork of the Gallatin River, was designed by the late great Arnold Palmer. Don’t miss an al fresco meal at the Bunker Deck & Grill before or after heading out on the course.

Basecamp to Yellowstone

Big Sky Resort is located just one hour from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. If geysers and wildlife top your must-see list, but roughing it isn’t exactly your thing - enjoy the creature comforts of a resort stay at Big Sky. Resort accommodations, a spa and salon, pool, and dining are the perfect complement to your trip to Yellowstone National Park.

Coming soon: Swift Current 6

This summer, Big Sky Resort is embarking on a major chairlift upgrade, Swift Current 6, for the 2021-2022 winter season. This new six-person, high-speed chair with a signature Big Sky Blue Bubble and ultrawide heated seats will also become the fastest six-person chairlift in North America. Swift Current 6 is the resort's next step in creating the most technologically-advanced lift network in North America, a key pillar of the Big Sky 2025 vision. Swift Current 6 replaces the current four-person chairlift with state-of-the-art Doppelmayr D-Line technology, offering guests reliability, efficiency, and a staggeringly fast, warm, and comfortable ride up to the iconic Lone Peak.
