About Alta Lodge

"Alta Lodge is a great place to work. They actually care about their employees -- increasingly rare in today's world. If you are fortunate enough to work at the Lodge, you’ll live in Little Cottonwood Canyon, ski your brains out, fill your belly with good food, and work with a great group of people."
- Dr. Ken Libre, MD, Alta Medical Clinic

We offer a friendly and respectful living and working environment, terrific food, and great schedules for playing in the mountains. Employee housing in the Lodge is available. Our employees love Alta Lodge!

The Employee Experience

We have about 80 employees in the winter and 40 during the summer, sharing our commitment to outstanding guest service and creating a friendly and comfortable atmosphere for our guests from all over the world. We strive for excellence in our work and we are equally passionate about our recreation and our community in Alta. The rich history combined with true ski culture at Alta Lodge is unmatched.  Many of our employees stay with us for multiple seasons, year-round, or make their careers here at the Lodge.

Join the Alta Lodge family and experience the magic of an Alta winter or summer for yourself! You will ski more powder than you ever have in the winter; climb, hike, bike, and more the world-renowned Wasatch mountains in the summers; live, work, and play with some of the coolest people you’ll ever meet, and walk away with lasting memories and lifelong friendships.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for friendly, energetic people who are committed to excellent guest service and who love to recreate in the mountains. We have fun, and we work hard. We prefer (but don’t always require) that you have a college degree, and we generally require that you be 21 or older to work here.

Room and Board

Lodge employees have the option to live in the Lodge (if available) or live out (seasonal housing is usually available to rent in Sandy or Cottonwood Heights). Employee housing in the Lodge is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Room & board is $450 per month; there is a different (higher) pay scale for live-out employees. Living in the Lodge is a great way to avoid driving the Canyon road (often snowy) and enjoy a commute of less than one minute to work.

Employee housing is mostly dorm-style with shared rooms and shared bathrooms. Employees have access to three meals a day during specified times as well as 24-hour access to fruit, cereal and other snacks plus a fridge and microwave in the employee room. Our employee food is the best in the canyon and there are always vegetarian options available!

Employee Perks

  • Delicious food
  • Ski pass
  • Ski/gear locker
  • Ample ski time in the winter, 3-day weekends in the summer
  • Access to hotel facilities:  hot tubs, saunas, bar, coffee and tea station, deck and fire pits

Looking for a year-round career?  Our year-round employees can become eligible for the following benefits, after working full-time for 12 months:

  • Health and dental insurance
  • HSA
  • 401K with matching
  • Profit sharing
  • Vacation

Getting Here and Getting Around

Alta Lodge is just 45 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport. There is limited free public parking available for employees during the winter, but due to heavy snowfall and frequent road restrictions, we recommend not bringing a car. This is the employee's decision.

For employees flying into Salt Lake and not bringing a car, we are happy to arrange shuttle transportation to Alta. Employees may also ship skis and gear ahead by UPS.

For Fun

At the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Mountains, Alta is known for its steep terrain, backcountry access, and nearly 550 inches yearly average of the best snow anywhere. Alta is “a classic, minimalist, hardcore hill that brings in pilgrims from all over the world in search of one simple salvation: powder.” – Ski Magazine. This is the mecca for diehard skiers and powder hounds, and just one winter here will change your life forever. And for beginners - there is no better place to learn.

Alta continues the tradition of skiing only, but for snowboarders, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort is just a mile down the road and there is easy bus transportation available between the two resorts.

Alta Lodge employees may choose to get an Alta or Snowbird season pass through the Lodge, with no deposit required. An Alta-Snowbird dual-pass upgrade can also be purchased, for employees who would like to experience all of the incredible terrain that Little Cottonwood Canyon has to offer.

When the snow melts in the summers, Alta and Little Cottonwood Canyon are home to miles of hiking and biking trails, world-class rock climbing, pristine alpine lakes, and an abundance of beautiful wildflowers.  Beyond recreating, Alta has a thriving community in the summers, with Sunday volleyball, free yoga classes, and other fun events sponsored by our local community organization, Alta Community Enrichment.
