Location: On-site (99 Inn Road, Shelburne, VT 05482)

Start & End Date: May - October 26, 2024

Salary Range:  $20 - $25 /hour

Schedule:  7 day operation; Typical schedule is 7am - 3pm or 2pm - 10pm,  and days worked depends on schedule  and availability

Housing: Located on our 1,400 acre farm, walking distance to the inn (no need for vehicle while living here unless you want to leave the farm). You will have a private, single occupancy bedroom in a shared house with 5 other inn & restaurant colleagues. All furnishings, bedding, and kitchen supplies are provided. Employees need only bring their personal items and food. No pets allowed and the housed spot is only available for the employee (not for family members). Staff meals are provided before/after your shifts and a small store on the farm offers other necessary cooking items to purchase (2 miles from staff house). Local store with more supplies is 5 miles away and easily accessible by bicycle (not provided by farm). 

Outdoor recreation located on farm include: water sports in Lake Champlain, hiking/walking/jogging around the farm, forest bathing, and endless opportunities to engage with farm animals. We're a learning campus and hope you enjoy all that the farm has to offer!

Outdoor recreation located beyond the farm: Smaller hikes within 10 miles, larger hikes within 30 miles, biking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and simply exploring all that Vermont (and upstate NY) have to offer.

What You’ll Do

  • Serving the Farm’s guests well prepared food in a prompt, friendly manner.
  • Prepping and cooking of food using approved safe food-handling practices.
  • Routine cleaning of food preparation and storage areas to maintain a consistently high standard of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Support the Packaged Food Team in production of products for sale at the Farm Store.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Passion for preparing and sharing locally sourced, simply prepared and beautifully presented, great tasting nutritious food.
  • 3 years or more savory cooking experience. 
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Self motivated, team player with flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor with a positive outlook.
  • Excellent knife skills and extensive understanding of various cooking techniques 
  • Inspired by the Farm’s mission, vision, core values and strategic plan, and personally and professionally committed to advancing social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion 
  • A willingness to participate in a background check.

Additional Valued Qualifications 

  • Maintain a positive attitude under pressure 
  • Ability to work weekends and some holidays as needed
  • Opening experience a plus
  • A passion for great food and hospitality 
  • Experience with point of sales systems a plus

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Seasonally demanding work schedule
  • Ability to be physically active for extended periods of time
  • Indoor spaces lack conventional heating and cooling
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds

  • Six (6) days (48 hours) of paid Sick Time for all seasonal employees.
  • Free employee housing available at Shelburne Farms for this role, however not required. This benefit may impact your total wages.
