As a Security Guard, you’ll help monitor assigned areas, control access, respond to security concerns, and document incidents accurately. You’ll play an important role in maintaining a safe destination while working with a team dedicated to professional service and responsible security practices.

🛡️ WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Maintain a Safe Environment: Monitor assigned areas, identify potential concerns, and help prevent unauthorized activity.

  • Control Access: Check identification and manage access for employees, guests, and vehicles according to established procedures.

  • Respond Professionally: Address trespassing, policy violations, and other security concerns in accordance with applicable laws and company procedures.

  • Assist When Needed: Provide first aid or CPR within the scope of your training and certification.

  • Document Incidents: Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed reports of incidents, observations, and daily activities.

  • Stay Connected: Use two-way radios and other communication devices effectively to coordinate with coworkers and communicate important information.

  • Work as a Team: Support fellow team members, follow established security procedures, and perform other duties as assigned.

🎯 WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Required — TWIC Card: Must possess a current, unexpired Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

  • Dependability: Responsible, observant, and committed to maintaining a safe environment.

  • Sound Judgment: Ability to remain calm, assess situations, and respond appropriately under pressure.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written English skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and prepare accurate reports.

  • Professionalism: Ability to interact respectfully with guests, employees, and visitors while maintaining appropriate security boundaries.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and collaborate effectively with others.

  • Security Experience: Previous security or safety experience is helpful but not required.

  • First Aid/CPR: Current certification preferred.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to work variable hours and support changing operational needs during the busy season.

💪 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, squat, and stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Comfort working in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.

  • Ability to work in unheated buildings and areas with noise or strong odors.

  • Willingness to walk and drive on gravel roads in changing Alaska weather.

  • Ability to work flexible hours during peak seasonal operations.

  • Willingness to live and work in a remote, rural community and travel to and from Hoonah by ferry or small plane.
