As a Public Space Attendant, you’ll help keep our facilities, restrooms, walkways, and outdoor gathering areas clean, safe, and ready for guests from around the world. From maintaining spotless floors to preparing outdoor spaces and assisting visitors, your work will make a visible difference throughout our destination.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys staying active, notices the little details, and takes pride in a job well done. If you’re dependable, enjoy working as part of a team, and want to spend your season in beautiful Hoonah, Alaska, we’d love to meet you!


🧹 WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Keep Spaces Guest-Ready: Clean and maintain public facilities and guest areas to ensure they remain neat, sanitary, safe, and welcoming.

  • Make Every Surface Shine: Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors, as well as clean restrooms, walls, ceilings, and windows.

  • Maintain Outdoor Areas: Empty trash, cut wood, tend fires, and help keep outdoor gathering spaces clean and presentable.

  • Care for Fixtures and Furniture: Polish furniture, fixtures, and metalwork to maintain a professional appearance.

  • Prepare for Events and Seasonal Cleaning: Move and arrange furniture as needed to support events, deep cleaning, and daily operations.

  • Maintain Your Equipment: Use and care for vacuums, trolleys, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning equipment safely and responsibly.

  • Follow Cleaning Standards: Complete assigned cleaning schedules and promptly report maintenance concerns or potential hazards.

  • Help Our Guests: Answer questions and assist visitors in public areas with a friendly, helpful attitude.

  • Represent Icy Strait Point: Maintain a positive, professional presence and contribute to a welcoming guest experience.

  • Support the Team: Assist coworkers and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate with others while also completing assigned tasks independently.

  • Outdoor Readiness: Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in changing Alaska weather.

  • Cleaning or Maintenance Experience: Previous housekeeping, custodial, or maintenance experience is a plus—but we’re happy to train the right candidate.

  • Safety Awareness: Ability to use cleaning equipment responsibly and follow established safety procedures.


💪 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This active position involves physical work throughout the day in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.

  • Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, squat, and stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Ability to safely swing an ax to cut wood.

  • Comfort working in areas with noise, strong odors, and varying temperatures.

  • Willingness to work in unheated buildings and extended hours during peak season.

  • Ability to walk or drive on gravel roads in changing and inclement weather.

  • Willingness to live and work in a remote Alaskan community, with travel by small plane or ferry as needed.
