Yosemite Area Sous Chef 1 Year Commitment

Seeking PM Sous Chef or possibly Dinner Line Cook for busy, fun, popular and well rated cafe in the Sierras, 45 minutes from Yosemite Valley. The June Bug Cafe is a small, rustic cafe serving from scratch comfort food and vegan/vegetarian that has been serving 21 years.  We have been rated as one of the five best in the Yosemite region.  The cafe is part of Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort.  Look at both business's Facebook, Google, Bing, TripAdvisor and Booking.com ratings.

Our diners and guests are mostly European and Californian. We have a local following. We are open year round, serving 3 meals a day. Breakfast and lunch menu are standard fare, whereas dinner menu changes daily and focuses on fresh, seasonal, sustainable local food. It is a casual style restaurant, service is secondary to the food.

Sous chef will be responsible for helping to create and serve each night’s dinner menu. Must have experience with a variety of different styles of cuisine. This is an excellent opportunity for creative individuals to showcase their talent.  

We have a garden on site that grows an abundance of fresh produce such as heirloom tomatoes, chilis, eggplant, squashes, cucumbers, etc. We are known for some of the best vegetarian food in the area, as well as awesome steaks and sustainable seafood too. We showcase local beer and wine and have live music and events through the year.

It is a great opportunity to explore California and Yosemite from an inexpensive base.  Pay is $17 hour and includes free shift meals.  We offer tent cabins on property for $200 a month. There are employee bathrooms and a kitchen. It's very much a community where everyone takes part.  We have a diverse staff. 

The ideal candidate has experience on a high volume, fast paced line. Applicants should also be easy going (no drama!) and enthusiastic. Someone who still enjoys cooking and creativity in a place appreciates it and where it matters. We have an open kitchen and look for cooks to behave in a mature, professional fashion. Culinary degree is a plus, but not required if candidate has sufficient experience. Baking experience is also a plus.

All new hires must pass a hard drug test.
