About Yellowstone Park & Yellowstone Mountainside KOA Campgrounds
The Yellowstone Park KOA and Yellowstone Mountainside KOA and West Yellowstone Super 8 are 1.5 miles away from each other and are owned and operated by the Linde family since 1981 offering camping accommodations for visitors to Yellowstone National Park.
Yellowstone Park KOA Campground is a 325-site campground located 6 miles from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park at the gateway town of West Yellowstone, Montana. The Yellowstone Park KOA is the closest KOA to Yellowstone National Park. This campground consistently ranks as one of the top KOA franchises in the world and is considered the best family campground in the region. We take pride in offering first class accommodations to our guests while they are visiting the world’s first National Park.
Yellowstone Mountainside KOA is an up and coming KOA Journey brand campground. It is also next door to the 44 room West Yellowstone Super 8. The newly remodeled hotel and 220-site RV Park is emerging as the lodging and RV’ing choice for people that want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Yellowstone’s West Entrance. Bordering the Gallatin National Forest and perched just below the US Continental Divide, Yellowstone Mountainside KOA is a beautiful property that has 4 streams and 5 fishing ponds for those folks that like to tie one on and catch dinner. It’s a perfect place to go for a nature hike or mountain bike adventure too.
In 2018 we’ve expanded and have added the 1600 acre Deep Well Ranch which surrounds both KOA properties. This gives us the ability to offer some very exclusive recreation opportunities just for our employees on our property. Additionally we now have a private employee only RV park and other housing options available on the property.
The Employee Experience
Besides spending a fantastic summer exploring Yellowstone National Park and Teton National Park like a pro you’ll have an opportunity to work with some very cool people and possibly make some new friends for life. It’s a busy operation with possibly 2,000 people calling our location home for the night. There are a lot restrooms and cabins to clean. Our grass needs to be mowed all summer. We answer reservation calls and check in guests. We sell groceries and souvenirs and homemade fudge. We feed people pancakes and Almost World Famous BBQ ribs. Besides all that, at the end of the day we like to relax with our friends. Our days off though are what really make it all worth while. Whitewater rafting, hiking, backcountry camping, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking are all readily available in the area.
In 2018 more than 70% of our staff were returning from previous years or were referred by a friend.
Three generations of the Linde family are involved in operating these businesses and they’re ready to help you get started with an amazing summer of adventure.
Ideal candidates are people that like to have fun and have a hard time containing their enthusiasm about Yellowstone. People that like a fast paced work environment that offers some fun work opportunities. We hire people from all backgrounds, from college students maybe just starting out with their first ever job away from home all the way to retirees looking to keep active and still enjoy putting in a good days work.
Our employees are our #1 asset and we will treat you like part of the family.
Room and Board
All housing is on-site either at Yellowstone Park KOA or Yellowstone Mountainside KOA or at the Deep Well Ranch (all within the same property). We offer a variety of types of housing. One is dormitory style with one or two persons per room and the other is a shared cabin with 3-4 people. All housing is semi-furnished with beds and furniture.
There are shared kitchen facilities for staff in the on property housing, and there is a microwave and small refrigerator in each unit. Cost is $10 per day and we will refund HALF of housing paid at the completion of your season commitment. That’s a pretty sweet deal.
We do not offer a meal plan. You are on your own for getting supplies and cooking but there are grocery stores and many restaurants available in West Yellowstone.
We love Workampers! We offer a full service RV site for our employees with a package similar to our on-site employee housing. Please let us know if you are wanting to stay in an RV. We give a FULL refund of rent paid if you staying in an RV site. No charge for electric and pets are welcome.
We also have mobile home housing on the property available. Ask for more details if you’d like to consider that option.
If you are applying with someone else please let us know. If you also wish to share housing with them let us know that as well.
Wages do vary with each position, but our minimum starting wage for all positions is $11.50 per hour. Time and one-half is paid for all overtime worked. We do not pay extra for evening, weekend or holiday shifts. We offer discounted meals at the Café at Yellowstone Park KOA and at Lodgepole Pizzeria at Yellowstone Mountainside KOA.
Getting Here and Getting Around
We are in a remote area - and that’s a good thing! We highly recommend that if possible you come with a car or come with someone with a car. There is very limited public transportation to West Yellowstone, so to fully experience the area it's helpful to have wheels.
There isn’t Greyhound Service to West Yellowstone, but we would recommend The Yellowstone Transportation shuttle service that comes from Slat Lake City, UT. Tell them you are working at KOA or Super 8 and they may possibly drop you off on the way to West Yellowstone, otherwise we’ll come meet you at their office. If you are interested in flying to West Yellowstone, Delta Airlines offer a couple flights per day coming from Salt Lake City, UT.
We’ll give you two days off per week, but you’ll need to come back for at least the next decade to take it all in! Not only is Yellowstone close by, we are also not far from Grand Teton National Park.
The area immediately surrounding West Yellowstone has hundreds of miles of trails for biking and hiking, and fishing opportunities, whether fly fishing or angling, are unequaled.
You may work at an RV park, but if it’s not your style of camping, we can think of plenty of places for you to easily get away and enjoy “roughing it”. By the end of the summer our staff has become Yellowstone area experts and can’t wait to return the following year.
