We have a core staff of approximately 34 full time employees working in Gardiner and Bozeman, Montana.

In addition, we have approximately 40 seasonal employees working in Summer (May through October) and approximately 15 in Winter (December through March).

Nearly 75 people volunteer for Yellowstone Forever in a given year.  

The Park is in transition between seasons (April and November), with the roads and operations generally closed to the public.

    Fleet and Field Campus

    The Campus and Program Volunteer supports the educational programs and Yellowstone Overlook field campus. Each educational program is supported by one of our Campus and Program Volunteers. Field seminar programs are based at the Lamar Buffalo Ranch field campus, the Yellowstone Forever classrooms in Gardiner, or another location in the park. The Yellowstone Overlook field campus is based in Gardiner, and provides a location for adult students and youth groups to stay in comfortable lodging during their stay while participating in YF programs. Campus and Program Volunteers welcome and host students, orient them to Yellowstone Forever and the facility, assist instructors in logistical aspects of courses, drive the 14-passenger mini-bus for all field trips, assist in risk management in the field, and maintain and clean campus facilities. Campus and Program Volunteers also provide linen service and basic maintenance services at the Yellowstone Overlook field campus. Success in this position requires a welcoming demeanor, being a responsible and independent worker and being able to assist with the needs of various students. Depending upon the needs of Yellowstone Forever, Campus and Program Volunteers may spend more time or less on certain duties.

    Status: Volunteer; We're looking for a minimum 6-week commitment.

    Summary Description:

    Yellowstone Forever (YF) is the official nonprofit partner of Yellowstone National Park. Our mission is to protect, preserve, and enhance Yellowstone National Park through education and philanthropy. YF connects people to Yellowstone through outstanding visitor experiences and educational programs and translates those experiences into lifelong support of the park and philanthropic investment in its future. Our educational programming and products help people enhance their understanding and appreciation of the wildlife, natural wonders, and cultural history of the park. YF’s operations include Park Stores in and around Yellowstone; the Yellowstone Forever Institute, which offers in-depth educational programing for people of all ages; and a supporter program which raises funds for priority park projects.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Greet and check-in students and instructors
    • Transport course participants in 14-passenger mini-buses
    • Assist students and instructors in the classroom as well as in the field
    • Oversee student safety and risk management in the field
    • Clean and maintain assigned vehicles and facilities daily
    • Represent Yellowstone Forever and its mission accurately and positively
    • Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment with YF employees, volunteers and partners
    • Travel into Yellowstone, throughout the Greater Yellowstone area and other, as required
    • Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Fleet and Field Campuses, or other designated leadership

    Basic Qualifications: 

    • Willingness to live in close quarters, with a roommate at a remote facility in potentially extreme environmental conditions
    • Proven interpersonal and customer service skills for greeting and orienting students, instructors and visitors
    • Ability to maintain friendly, cooperative working relationships with a diverse population
    • Willingness to keep facility and vehicles clean, safe and maintained
    • Ability to perform basic cabin cleaning and maintenance tasks proficiently
    • Physically able to perform basic maintenance skills, lift up to 40 pounds, and to accompany courses into the field on hikes of 2-10 miles at elevation on uneven terrain
    • Demonstrated ability to anticipate student and facility needs and work with minimal supervision
    • Attention to safety and risk management
    • CPR certification (earned prior to starting work) and Wilderness First Aid certification (generally provided in training)
    • Ability to pass a DOT Medical Exam, only Program Volunteer positions
    • Willingness to support the needs of Yellowstone Forever through multiple assigned tasks in a volunteer capacity
    • Ability to represent YF in a courteous and professional manner
    • This position involves driving YF vehicles, therefore applicants must hold and maintain a valid US driver’s license, and maintain a favorable driving record for insurance purposes
    • A satisfactory criminal background check are conditions of volunteerism

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Experience with campus management
    • Experience with risk management
    • The ability to pass and maintain a Department of Transportation medical exam

    Benefits:

    This is a volunteer position located at the Lamar Buffalo Ranch, inside Yellowstone National Park and at the Yellowstone Overlook Field Campus, just outside the northern gate of Yellowstone National Park. Campus and Program Volunteers will be provided with a comfortable cabin that may be shared with other volunteers. Volunteers may be provided a nominal fee of $15 per day to help offset out of pocket expenses. This may be taxable income; therefore, volunteers will receive a 1099 from Yellowstone Forever. Volunteers must provide their own health insurance for any health issues unrelated to the volunteer duties. Yellowstone Forever volunteers also receive a 30% discount on most Park Stores products. Discounts on other courses and products are also offered.  Benefits of this position include knowing that your efforts directly benefit Yellowstone National Park and having the opportunity to work in one of the world’s premiere wilderness areas.

    The IT Administrator is responsible for deploying, maintaining, securing, and supporting a broad spectrum of hardware and software technologies. Reporting to the IT Manager, but exercising a high degree of autonomy, the IT Administrator will recommend, deploy, and maintain YF endpoints (Windows/MacOS), and support staff across all departments in multiple locations. In addition, the position will assist in configuration, maintenance, and security of cloud services, on-premises servers (Windows/Linux), and retail point-of-sale systems in Bozeman, Gardiner, and Yellowstone National Park.

    • Desktop Administration & Support
      • Act as first responder to technical support issues, carefully categorizing, tracking, and resolving end-user requests for IT help.
      • Troubleshoot and repair IT hardware and software including desktops, laptops, and mobile devices running Windows, MacOS, iOS, or Android.
      • Develop, deploy, maintain, and document technologies and processes for endpoint deployment.
      • Monitor endpoint security status and respond as necessary.
      • Maintain accurate IT asset inventory.
      • Contribute to design and support of audio-visual components in hybrid meeting spaces.
      • Assist with identification and adoption of technologies to further the mission of Yellowstone Forever.

     

    • Server/Cloud Administration
      • Maintain AD/AAD users & groups, assisting HR with onboarding/offboarding activities.
      • Assist IT Manager with maintenance and support of on-premises and cloud-based servers to deliver file, print, and security services as necessary.
      • Assist IT Manager with mitigation of emerging security threats.

     

    • Enterprise Networking
      • Deploy and maintain network switches, routers, and other network connected devices.
      • Maintain rules on edge and OS firewalls.
      • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues.
         
    • Enterprise Security
      • Educate and reinforce proper security procedures with YF staff.
      • Recommend and deploy appropriate security countermeasures.
      • Regularly review logs and respond to emerging security threats.

     

    • Point-of-Sale
      • Deploy and maintain isolated networks in multiple retail stores.
      • Deploy and maintain POS systems consisting of payment devices (Clover), iPads, receipt printers, and cash drawers.

     

    • Other tasks as assigned, including occasional evening or weekend work

     

    Basic Qualifications:

    • AA or technical degree in information systems or related field and at least 5 years progressive experience in an enterprise IT environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Service-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Ability to take direction, but able to function independently as required.
    • Demonstrated experience deploying and supporting endpoints (Microsoft Windows, Apple MacOS) in an enterprise Active Directory environment.
    • Demonstrated experience with deployment and/or maintenance of enterprise networks.
    • Demonstrated experience deploying and/or maintaining Windows Server.
    • Desire to learn new things.
    • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
    • Ability to lift 50lbs.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • A+, Network+, Security+ or equivalent experience.
    • Microsoft Cloud technologies (e.g. Office365, Hyper-V, AzureAD, InTune, Defender, Sharepoint, Teams, etc).
    • Experience with mobile device management.
    • Experience with server virtualization technologies.
    • Experience deploying and maintaining enterprise network technologies (switches/firewalls/wireless APs).
    • Experience with information security investigations and countermeasures.
    • Experience deploying and supporting A/V and collaboration technologies.
    • Experience with enterprise disaster recovery planning and testing.
    • Experience with end-user training.
    • Knowledge of Yellowstone National Park.

     

    Compensation:

    This is a full-time, non-exempt position, which can be based in Bozeman or Gardiner. Travel between the offices and throughout the park may be required. Salary is based upon experience, pay range $52,000 - $60,000.     The Director of Retail is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational guidance for Yellowstone Forever’s physical and web stores and Retail team. This leader is directly accountable for building teams and strategies to achieve YF’s short and long-term performance goals across revenue, membership, operational KPIs, profitability targets, and employee and customer satisfaction.

    The Director of Retail is responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring the success of the retail division of YF by implementing strategies which support business growth strategies. This position is part of the Leadership team and works collaboratively with leadership across the organization, providing strategic counsel on best practices in creating effective marketing and retail operational strategies. Also responsible for developing and executing plans across multiple stores and ecommerce site that deliver revenue results.

    The Director of Retail will develop the next phase of YF’s transformation strategy, drive a culture of accountability and ownership, and build and develop a team of strong individuals across YF’s stores and retail operations. Ensure training is in alignment with the mission and vision of YF and customer.

    The Director of Retail will oversee the planning, enablement, and execution of strategic initiatives in stores to deliver on annual and long-term goals. They will be accountable for leading teams, advancing our customer experience, employee experience, and multiple aspects of retail operations. They will also be a key facilitator of change across YF, engaging with cross-functional leaders to align priorities and roadmaps, and address any roadblocks. They will also have responsibility for furthering the YF culture and a continuous improvement mindset to deliver a differentiated level of customer service and productivity.

    This leader is a strategic operator, with experience in developing and overseeing transformations as well as deep store, field, and operations experience in an omni-channel retailer. They will have the ability to develop a strong team, drive change in a complex organization, generate significant impact through strategic and tactical direction, and deliver results.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Develop and execute retail/product marketing plans with objectives, strategies, and tactics to support market growth objectives driven by analytical insights.
    • Collaborate with Finance and leadership team to create annual Retail operating budget and ensure results are coordinated with the overall YF budget.
    • Develop strategies and action plans for retail marketing including promotional events, partner collaborations and outreach initiatives.
    • Oversee the open-to-buy budgeting, purchasing, and distribution of inventory throughout our retail locations.
    • Work with Retail team, to find solutions and deliver results in a rapidly changing consumer culture and business climate.
    • Develop strong retail marketing plans that support location revenue targets, while positioning YF to be a leader among other Park Partners.
    • Identify opportunities in the market through competitive insights, community engagements and strategic partnerships.
    • Partner cross-functionally with Philanthropy, Education, and Finance to develop cohesive and connected plans tied to revenue. Be the Retail Operations strategic partner with Corporate and external partners to support execution.
    • Maintain knowledge of the consumer, market, and retail trends to develop data-backed business and consumer insights.
    • Lead and inspire retail team.

     

    Basic Qualifications: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience;
    • Substantial retail management experience with at least 3-5 years overseeing multiple retail locations.
    • Established strategic and operational expertise with the ability to influence leadership, with substantial experience in visual merchandising;
    • Proven business acumen and communication skills for collaborative cross-functional discussions;
    • Strong ability to communicate ideas and lead teams from conception to implementation;
    • Proven analytical skills;
    • Demonstrated leader in Retail operations with a direct approach to managing business, growing revenues, and profit margins;
    • Experience developing staff to deliver excellent customer service;
    • Proficient with the use of technology- POS (point of sale), WMS, and ecommerce management systems;

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Substantial experience in complete Retail Project Management, including branding, guest experience, merchandise mix, operations, and e-commerce;
    • Substantial experience in product development and design, sourcing, vendor negotiations, product rollouts, and merchandise campaigns;
    • Experience with NetSuite;
    • Substantial experience working in a nonprofit environment;
    • Experience leading seasonal staff.

    Compensation:

    This is a full-time, salary/exempt position, which is based in Gardiner. Travel between the offices and throughout the park will be required.   • Retail Park Store Associate - Summer 2022

    The Park Store Associate is a critical role in the daily operation of Yellowstone Forever Park stores at visitor centers and contact stations throughout the Greater Yellowstone National Park Area. The associate represents “the face” of the organization by working on the front lines and often in partnership with naturalist rangers from the National Park Service. Associates assist and engage visitors with purchases of educational products, explain our supporter program and recruit new members, and help answer visitor questions about Yellowstone National Park. Success in this position requires outstanding visitor/customer service skills and a passion for Yellowstone National Park and its preservation, and sharing that passion with others.

    Housing: Options are available. Majority of housing available is RV sites, for these you bring your own RV. Limited other housing options are available to rent, single unit, two bedroom, and shared multi-bedroom units.
