We are now hiring positions at Coldfoot Camp for the upcoming 2021 midnight sun season --- ideally, a successful candidate will be available to begin work no later than late-June 2021 [or earlier!!!] and be available to work thru 30 September 2021 [or beyond!!!] --- if 4+ months of summer/fall work and adventure north of the Arctic Circle in Alaska’s Brooks Mountain Range sounds intriguing and exciting to you, please read on . .

THE REGION

Coldfoot, Alaska --- two hundred sixty miles north of the nearest traffic light in Fairbanks --- two hundred forty miles south of the Arctic Ocean – sixty miles north of the Arctic Circle --- sixty miles south of the northermost extent of the tree line --- adjacent to the 8.2 million acre Gates of the Arctic National Park, the wilderness jewel of the National Park System --- surrounded by the remote wilderness and unpeopled expanses that are Alaska’s Brooks Mountain Range --- a landscape bathed in 24-hour daylight for four months [Apr 22 – Aug 20] --- located directly under the Aurora Oval, a geographic location that makes Coldfoot one of the very best places in the world to view the mysterious and awe-inspiring aurora borealis [Aug 21 – Apr 21] --- an arctic wilderness that only a self-selected few are fortunate enough to call home.


THE CAMP

Coldfoot Camp is located in Alaska at mile 175 of the Dalton Highway – the Dalton Highway comprises the final 500 miles of the Pan-American Highway and is the only road in the Western Hemisphere to reach the Arctic Ocean --- at the center of this activity is COLDFOOT CAMP --- a legendary full-service hospitality center offering food, lodging, fuel, outdoor activities, and other services for those working, living, and recreating in the region.

Central to the soulful hospitality found at Coldfoot Camp is the Trucker’s Café [featured prominently on the hit reality tv show Ice Road Truckers] --- the Trucker’s Café is open year-round, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week [serving food from 6:00 AM to Midnight] --- during the summer months, Coldfoot Camp offers delicious breakfast and dinner buffet service in addition to year-round menu service featuring truckstop-style fare --- a Dalton Highway hospitality oasis, Coldfoot Camp plays host to recreational travelers, truckers, workers, and locals alike --- a place for the community of travelers to meet on Alaska’s wilderness highway.


THE WORK

Coldfoot Camp’s summer season formally begins in mid-May 2021 and ends 30 September 2021 --- ideally, a successful candidate will be available to begin work no later than late-June 2021 [or earlier!!!] and be available to work thru 30 September 2021 [or beyond!!!].

A coworker who successfully works through the 30 September 2021 season completion date [minimum 4-month season] will earn a $2,000.00 season completion bonus --- the intent of which is to help defray the costs associated with the coworker’s responsibility to provide their own transportation to/from Alaska.

ALL COWORKERS ARE PROVIDED A ROOM AND THREE MEALS PER DAY AT NO COST TO THE COWORKER.

The details associated with a few of the COLDFOOT CAMP positions for which we are NOW HIRING are as follows:


 

NIGHT COOK

RESPONSIBILITIES

The night cook has primary responsibility for a diverse set of food production activities focused on cooking delicious, hand-crafted meals in our "scratch" kitchen for an equally diverse make-up of guests [recreational travelers, trucker, and workers] in our 80-seat roadside café --- our summer season food service features both menu and buffet service.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Execute final “line" food production activities required to fill night service menu orders.
  • Execute all food prep activities required for night menu service.
  • Assist with both prep and production activities associated with the production and assembly of “to-go” sack lunches.
  • Assist with dishwashing activities as required.
  • Execute all cleaning activities required to leave the kitchen “absurdly clean” at the end of the shift.

THE PERFECT FIT

The Coldfoot Camp night cook position is a perfect fit for an individual who:

  • Has previous line cooking and experience in a commercial kitchen --- OR --- is new to a commercial kitchen but has a sincere and enthusiastic willingness to develop new culinary skills.
  • Views favorably the idea of working in a "scratch" kitchen versus an "industrial" production kitchen.
  • Views favorably the idea of working in a non-corporate work environment

6:30 PM – 2:30 PM;   5 days per week

DISHWASHER

RESPONSIBILITIES

The dishwasher has primary responsibility for executing dishwashing, kitchen cleaning, and food storage organizing activities in support of our mission to cook delicious, handcrafted meals in our 80-seat roadside cafe --- our summer season food service features both menu and buffet service --- the dishwasher also assists with food prep activities as required.

  • Loves to clean and organize --- and, has great attention to detail.

CLEANER-HOST

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As cleaner, has primary responsibility for working with a team to carry-out all activities associated with executing on our "absurd cleanliness" mission --- cleaning responsibilities are focused on 109 guest rooms along with adjacent public areas and common restroom/shower facilities.

As host, has primary responsibility for a VERY diverse set of guest-service activities focused on extending soulful hospitality to an equally diverse make-up of guests [travelers, locals, and workers] in our 80-seat roadside/riverside café. 

Specific host responsibilities include:

  • Greet guests upon their entering the café [and, soulfully determine their needs].
  • Respond to guest questions regarding the Camp, the region, or the highway.
  • Seat those guests choosing to dine with us, take orders, and serve food/drink.
  • Cashier all Camp sales [meals, lodging, fuel, gifts, mercantile].
  • Check-in overnight lodging guests.
  • Keep gift area organized and welcoming [fold, fold, fold!!!].
  • Clean café and public restrooms.
  • Assist with fuel and propane fill-ups when required.
  • Assist with dishwashing activities as required.
  • Assist with food prep activities as required.
