Witham Family Hotels owns and operates multiple hotel properties along the coast of Maine, with headquarters in the beautiful Acadia National Park area. We are proud to say our unique properties range from luxury resorts to budget-conscious accommodations, representing a variety of lodging options that meet every travel style.
We are located in the beautiful coastal town of Bar Harbor, Maine. Bar Harbor has the best of the both worlds with amazing ocean views, and stunning mountains and cliffs to explore. The small town is vibrant, with the main streets lined with shops and boutiques along with the exquisite dining options.
About The Witham Family, LLC
Witham Family Hotels was founded by entrepreneur and businessman David J. Witham after moving his business to Maine in 1986. In the early 1970's Mr. Witham and his sister bought from their father a small roadside motel and cabins located in Hampton Beach. NH called Marguerite Motel, named after their mother Margaret. There he grew the business to three hotels and bought out his sister before eventually selling the properties in New Hampshire to relocate to Bar Harbor Maine after stumbling upon the Bar Harbor Inn and successfully making an offer on the hotel. Through hard work, dedication to his employees and guests, and uncompromising standards, the portfolio today consists of multiple properties all within Maine.
A lifelong New Englander, Mr. Witham had a gift for seeing the potential both in a property and in people. He invested greatly into refurbishing hotels that did not meet his high standards, starting from scratch when necessary. He also fostered a team of employees who represent the gold standard in hospitality and customer service.
More than 30 years after Witham Family Hotels was founded, Witham employees remain true to those values. The passion, skill and excellence of our loyal dedicated staff epitomizes the "Family" in Witham Family Hotels. This family extends to Witham's many repeat guests, some of whom have been Witham customer's for more than two decades. Today the company is run by Mr. Witham's son, David C. Witham, a third-generation hotelier who since the age of 14 has held most every position imaginable in the hotel industry. He too strives to carry out the company's values that have driven it to the successes achieved while also keeping a keen eye on the future goal of taking the company to the next level regarding both the guest's experience and a positive work environment for all employees.
The Employee Experience
We thrive on having a fun, friendly, and positive work environment. Employees are encouraged to explore the area and to familiarize themselves with Acadia National Park to then share their firsthand experiences with other employees and our guests. You can expect your work days to be busy and fast-paced yet fulfilling.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking someone who has a friendly attitude, has strong attention to detail, is a team player, and is determined to go above and beyond for our guests and the property. They must be organized, professional, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Room and Board
We offer employee housing within a short walking distance from most of our properties. You will also find that housing is within walking distance from the local grocery store, post office, restaurants, and boutiques. A majority of our housing units are shared rooms with a full-sized kitchen and common spaces. We also offer single rooms, upon request and on a limited basis. Another bonus is that Wi-fi and laundry are available on site.
We charge $65 per week, which will automatically be deducted from your paycheck. Prior to moving in, we do require a $100 deposit that is refundable and a $50 incidental fee that is non-refundable.
Per the safety of our employees, we do require that everyone living in housing be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Employee Perks
As a Witham Family Hotels employee, you have access to free local excursions (boating tours around Frenchman's Bay, bus tours in Acadia National Park, Nature Cruises, etc.) We are also fortunate to have easy access to beautiful Acadia National Park. Other perks of being a Witham employee are you have access to discounts for our restaurants as well as our Spa, company events, discounted hotel rates for family and friends (depending on availability), direct deposit, employee assistance programs, employee recognition programs, and end-of-season bonus, and our end of season Witham Family Hotels Gala.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Many employees will fly into the Bangor International Airport or will arrive into Bangor on a Concord Coach bus. From there we can arrange for our employee shuttle to pick you up and bring you to employee housing. Our employee shuttle service is only for pick up and drop off from the airport and bus terminal to our housing. All other transportation would need to be arranged separately.
If you need to get around the Island there is a free shuttle service, The Island Explorer. The Island Explorer goes around the Island as well as into Acadia National Park. The only requirement for getting into the park is by purchasing a park pass. A park pass can be purchased online or at the visitor center.
For Fun
One of the major draws to this area is that we are surrounded by Acadia National Park. In the park, you can find over 40,000 acres of recreation area for biking, hiking, sightseeing and more. Other local activities that you can take part in throughout the season are the Fourth of July celebration, various art and music festivals starting in spring and going into fall, and the Bar Harbor Bed Races as well as the local pajama day sale in early November.
