Rediscover the Stars – May 21, 2017

Chances are if you’re reading this, you may already be living in a new place, working a summer seasonal job. Maybe you’re still considering a summer job, and if so, there are tons of opportunities still available, so apply! And maybe you’re just not in a place in your life where you feel that it’s possible to take the time out for a seasonal adventure. It’s all good, because no matter what your circumstances are, you can still go camping. That’s right, camping!

Summer is upon us; it’s time to get outside and enjoy all nature has to offer, and there’s just no better way to do that than spending a couple days and nights outside and disconnected from all the trappings of the work week. Whether or not #CoolWorksJobs are a part of your story this summer, you still have your weekends to pack up your camping gear and head out for an adventure.

I’ve rediscovered camping recently. It was such a huge part of my life for many years, but then I just got to the point that I wanted my bed at night, so my adventuring became hiking by day and AirBnBing by night. But honestly, that just got boring. I longed for the freedom of camping, waking up in wild places, drinking my coffee and watching the sun rise. Nodding off at camp for an afternoon nap in a hammock while watching the breeze blow through the pine trees. Watching day turn to night and the desert stars come into view. And the quiet. Ohhhh the quiet.

And I will admit, I’m not sleeping in a tent anymore. I bought a pretty awesome little camper – it’s basically a bed on wheels with a kitchen out the back – and I am in LOVE with it. It is a kid fort for my grown up self. My hubby and I and our two dogs did our maiden voyage last month, and truly, it was the best thing we’ve done in years. Completely disconnected from all our gadgets, from all the news, time slowed down. All the mental clutter and worry just dissipated. We could breathe again.

No matter where you live, there are camping opportunities, you just have to seek them out. For me, camping has been rediscovering a part of myself that I’d been missing. Who knows what you’re discovery will be!

If spring coming to an end is giving you happy feet, and you’re ready to dance into a new adventure, check out all the summer jobs still available!
