WRANGLER - POSITION DESCRIPTION

The job of a wrangler is to respectfully guide guests on horseback rides while providing for the safety and care of our guests and horses. The job requires physical strength and mental stamina to get through long days with a positive attitude. You will be required to brush and saddle up to 20 horses in the early morning in a timely manner, establish mutual respect between yourself and your clients, maintain composure at all times, deal with unexpected circumstances with utmost professionalism, build and repair fence, feed and water the herd, maintain pastures, prevent injuries (both human and horse), provide minor vetting to injured/ill horses, and be ready to respond to any task requested of you from management. As you’ve probably gathered, the job comes with massive amounts of responsibility, though we wranglers also have a lot of fun. We are looking for competent individuals with strength and a positive attitude to join our tightly-knit team.

Major Goal:

A Turpin Meadow Ranch wrangler provides the best possible Wyoming Horseback experience for our guests by maintaining healthy horses, a safe riding environment and by always appearing relaxed while remaining attentive. Your enthusiasm for and immersion in the Wilderness culture, horses and environment are key to the success of a Turpin Wrangler.

Responsibilities and Requirements Include (Not limited to):

  • Daily horse care, saddling, and un-saddling
  • Tack and equipment maintenance
  • Barn maintenance and cleaning
  • Greeting guests and provide pre-ride safety briefings
  • Guest Mounting and Un-Mounting support
  • Provide Basic horsemanship training to all riders
  • Visiting and mingle with guests around the ranch
  • Basic ranch maintenance (fence work, grounds keeping, gathering firewood)
  • Moderate to Advanced Western riding skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Satisfactory background check
  • Professional and personal references
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of our Summer/Fall Season
  • Must represent Turpin Meadow Ranch in a positive and professional manner

Salary plus Seasonal bonus and Seasonal Housing Provided.

Our ideal candidates have hospitality in mind no matter what duty is being completed.  Guest service and satisfaction are paramount.  Though we have a lot of fun at Turpin Meadow Ranch, we are looking for the most talented and professional individuals.  We require that candidates be 18 years of age or older and possess positive characteristics.  We are looking for healthy individuals who pay attention to their personal hygiene and appearance.  Please, no smokers as we are a smoke-free campus.  We are looking for responsible individuals who are respectful of themselves, others, animals, and property.  It is important that our employees are flexible and can take direction while maintaining a joyful spirit.  Attention to detail is a must, ideally, our employees can see what needs to be done without being asked.  Our team members need to have positive attitudes and strong work ethics, everyone is expected to be willing and happy to lend a helping hand when needed.  It is key that our employees can be happy in a remote area with limited cell phone and an internet connection, if this is a concern please discuss it during the interview process.

  • During the season there is a general camp tip fund that grows and is divided among the staff at the end of the season.
  • FREE accommodations for staff are provided with community kitchens and laundry. 

GETTING HERE & AROUND:

You will be expected to arrive in Jackson Hole by your own means.  Jackson Hole has an airport though it is strongly recommended that you have your own means of reliable transportation so that you can explore the nearby parks and also get into town on your own.  The ranch does not provide regular employee shuttles.

Navigation systems and GPS units may provide inaccurate information.  Print and prepare your driving directions beforehand; if you have a question about closed roads please call us before you begin your journey to the ranch. Cell phone reception is limited in many nearby areas and other parts of Wyoming.

If you are an outdoor enthusiast Turpin Meadow Ranch is the place for you!  

With stunning views of the Tetons out the front door and Wyoming’s second-largest Wilderness Area out the back door, there is never a moment of dullness. Turpin Meadow is 15 miles from the entrance of Grand Teton National Park and 40 miles to the south boundary entrance of Yellowstone National Park. With three National Forest trail-heads within walking distance, you will quickly be on your way to exploring the back-country.

There is world-class riding, biking, fishing, climbing, hiking, and camping in Jackson Hole.  Multi-sport days are a regular thing around these parts, it is not unheard of to climb, bike, and raft all on the same day.  By night enjoy a campfire with some good friends or treat yourself to a delicious meal at one of Jackson’s favorite foodie restaurants. The ranch is located about an hour away from the town of Jackson where every night is Friday night!  

For those who are creative, there is a vibrant art scene present.  Multiple art fairs come through Jackson in addition to live theater and music.  Many concerts are free.  There is also a great center for the arts in town which offers a variety of classes in almost every medium and brings shows in from across the country and the world.
