Calling all extraordinary humans! True Friends is looking for all stars like you to help provide our campers with positive life changing experiences this summer. Trade classrooms and offices for campfires and beautiful lakes as you make life-long friends while making a real difference in an electrifying community of campers of all ability levels.
 
Schedule: Seasonal, Early June - Mid August
                        *Commitment 7-13 weeks  
                        
Location: Camp Friendship in Annandale, MN
 
True Friends Summer Camp is an overnight camp provides opportunities for children and adults (ages 5 to 105) to enjoy and benefit from an outdoor, recreational, and leisure experience during summer season in Minnesota.
 
Activities are specially designed to meet the needs and abilities of each individual. In pursuit of a more balanced and independent lifestyle, life-long leisure skills are offered through activities which include bicycling, dance, fishing, campouts, hiking, cooking, sports, arts and crafts and more!

Counselors live in modern cabins with up to 12 participants and counselors, eat in the dining hall, go tubbing on the lake with campers, sit around the campfire, make s'mores and coach/teach campers through social interactions, encourage inclusion and engage campers in adaptive activities.
 
Some counselors come with a background in special education, social work, therapeutic recreation, exercise science and more! Others have little to no previous experience working with individuals with disabilities. We will train you on everything you need to know about working at True Friends! We provide training online prior to coming to camp and 1-2 weeks of hands-on training on-site before campers arrive. 
 
How You'll Contribute:

• Be a caregiver for camper’s social, emotional and physical needs.
• Be a leader of fun, friends and adventure.
• Assist individuals with physical disabilities or other limitations who need support with eating meals, walking, transferring, using the bathroom, etc.
• Manifest a loving and inclusive environment.
• Gain invaluable professional hard and soft skills.
• Provide opportunities for kids and adults of all abilities to reach outside of their comfort zones and experience adventure and skill building they don’t get anywhere else.
• Set clear expectations, ensure basic needs are being met, build rapport, and create opportunities for fun and learning.

 
 What You'll Bring to the Table:

• Age 18+
• Willing to step outside your comfort zone.
• Passionate about making a difference in the world.
• Comfortable supporting others with daily living skills (we train you!)
• Happy to live and work in a communal setting.
• Eager to take initiative and have a strong work ethic.
• Able to be flexible and adapt to an ever-changing environment.
• CPR/First Aid certified, Lifeguard certified, camping experience, prior experience with the population highly valued but NOT required.
