Retreats & Outdoor Education Staff are responsible for the facilitation of various programs and activities at YMCA Camp at Horsetheif Reservoir during the spring and Fall Seasons. Activities may include teaching Outdoor Education classes to 5th and 6th grade students, ropes/challenge courses, waterfront activities, and team-building activities. Successful Retreats and Outdoor Education staff members will have the ability to create an inclusive and encouraging environment for all participants. In addition, staff will assist in the upkeep of cabins, kitchen facilities, and program areas. All YMCA employees are expected to model and teach the YMCA Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.   

Starting Wage Range:

$58 - $60/day plus room and board 

Proposed Starting Date:

Spring Season – April 2020 

Key Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years old at the start of employment.  Must have CPR and First Aid certifications within 45 days of hire.  Experience in camping and outdoor recreation is preferred.  Lifeguard, challenge course, or archery certifications preferred. Staff hired before May 27, 2019 may be asked to participate in Synergo Site Specific Level 1 Ropes Course Training.  Successful candidates will have the ability to handle unexpected circumstances, a good understanding of group management, a good understanding of teamwork and communication, the ability to work with diverse groups of people, and the ability to instruct large groups and enforce procedures. Must be safety conscious and have the ability to enforce rules.  

Physical Requirements:

The job requires the ability to walk, stand, sit (including on the floor), bend, lean, and kneel in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Must have the ability to lead and participate in physically strenuous activities in a high altitude outdoor wilderness environment. 

Schedule Requirements:

Retreats and Outdoor Education groups are scheduled for 1-5 days at a time, frequently overlapping other groups. Staff are scheduled based on individual availability and are not required to work every event. Staff must participate in a one-week paid training at the beginning of the season they are hired for. Must be able to live at YMCA camp facilities in Cascade, Idaho during program delivery times.
