Course Overview:   Bully Pulpit is a nationally acclaimed 18-hole, par 72 daily fee golf course designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan.  We are located on the I-94 corridor in the Scenic and historic Badlands of North Dakota along the Little Missouri River, just 3 miles south of Historic Medora, ND.  The golf course measures 7,166 yards from the Championship tees, but has four other sets to choose from.  Greens are grassed with Seaside II creeping bentgrass, and the tees, fairways, and roughs are a mixture of Kentucky Blues and Fine Fescues.  Modern equipment fleet of Toro and John Deere units. 

Responsibilities and Duties:  The Equipment Technician will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of all turf equipment for the golf course, the golf car fleet, and some light building repair and maintenance. The Equipment Technician maybe asked to assist in cultural practices on the grounds as needed. 

  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines. 

  • Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary. 

  • Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance. 

  • Records and reports damaged worn or broken parts. 

  • Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines. 

  • Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently. 

  • Prepares reports documenting work performed. 

  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies. 

  • Coordinates with golf course superintendent to schedule regular maintenance on machines. 

  • Collaborates with golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent regarding new products being added and machinery that will be required. 

  • Makes necessary modifications and implements test runs; makes additional alterations to machinery as required. 

  • Purchasing supplies as needed. 

  • Assist with budgeting and planning. 

  • Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program with an emphasis on minimizing equipment downtime. 

  • Maintain a grinding program to keep cutting units performing and maintaining a quality of cut for maximum performance. 

  • Actively participate in crew and safety program training. 

  • Off-Season duties to include assisting in the maintenance of the TRMF vehicle fleet. 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

  • Understands and complies with all TRMF policies and safety guidelines. 

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills. 

  • Works will independently and with others. 

  • Good communication skills. 

  • Excellent organization and attention to detail required. 

  • Ability to work in a fast-pace and stressful environment. 

  • General knowledge of golf course desired. 

 

Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 

  • Some vocational or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience desired. 

  • Experience with small engine repair 

  • Familiarity with diesel and gasoline powered equipment 

  • Ability to weld and fabricate. 

  • Knowledge of turf related equipment and both reel and rotary style mowing equipment. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Continuously in outdoor weather conditions including heat and humidity. 

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking. 

  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean and service machinery. 

  • Repetitive use of hands, arms and fingers. 

  • Occasionally sitting, climbing grasping, lifting and carrying. 

  • Must be able to visually inspect machines and equipment. 

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
