Pay: Up to $375/week with opportunities for additional weekend work at $14-15 per hour. 

Room and Board: Room and most board is provided. Compensation includes on-site housing at our camp in Marble Falls Texas and meals when program is running (about 85% of the time).

Dates: This is a seasonal position, and exact dates vary year to year. Generally the fall season runs from mid-August through mid-November and the spring season runs from early-February through late-May. For successful candidates there is opportunity for continual employment through the year with season completion bonuses.

Location: The Outdoor School is located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country with direct waterfront access to Lake LBJ, and just 50 miles away from awesome food and live music in Austin.


The Animal Care Specialist will be the primary caretaker for our on-site animals including longhorns, ponies, miniature horses, a miniature zebu, pigs and piglets, Nigerian pygmy goats and kids, chickens, turkeys, and rabbits. When not attending to animals, you will work alongside our team of outdoor education instructors to teach kids in and about nature.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • About 50% animal care:
    • Feeding and caring for animals including horses, cows, pigs, goats, rabbits, chickens, turkeys and their young.
    • Inventory and stocking supplies
    • Maintaining clean, safe, healthy, and presentable habitats.
  • About 50% outdoor education:
    • Facilitating adventure and recreation activities including rock climbing, ropes courses, and archery.
    • Teaching experiential education curriculum to youth 4th-12th grade
    • Contributing to overall programmatic needs

Qualifications:

  • Some demonstrable prior experience and knowledge about farm animal care
  • Some prior experience working with children in educational and/or recreational settings
  • Enjoy working in the outdoors with animals

Compensation:

  • $375 per week
  • Onsite housing provided for the duration of employment
  • Most meals provided
